You’re so right. I had completely forgotten Aer Lingus used to use Jumbos. Gone are the days…

      Thousands are sailing
      Across the western ocean
      Where the hand of opportunity
      Draws tickets in a lottery
Where e’er we go, we celebrate
The land that makes us refugees
From fear of priests with empty plates
      From guilt and weeping effigies
Still we dance to the music
      And we dance

I’m an emigrant. I moved to Canada in 2008 and have been here since. Every single time my father complains about immigrants in Ireland I have to remind him that I’m an immigrant here and how would he feel if he heard people refer to me like people refer to immigrants in Ireland. How would he feel if the Canadian government decided to just rescind my citizenship and ship me and my kids who were born here home.

I wouldn’t equate a few Irish people moving over to the United States in the 80s with our current situation where the indigenous Irish people are at risk of becoming a minority very soon.

I am aware that native Americans are an indigenous minority in their own land but that was done long before the linked video was taken.
