You’re talking about Total fertility rate, not birth rate.

    2. The young generation in turkey cant get madrries easily anymore. The life conditions have been getting worse for long time and this rate is going down dramatically. I heard that 20 million people in turkey didnt get married even once. This is really bad.

That is the first country that I got to know, which had the stable and desirable rate of 2.1 for quite some time. Then they crashed, who would have done that?

Erdogan has been in office since 2014 I suppose? How interesting…

And if you exclude Arabs and especially Kurds , it will be even lower .

I guess that Western people do not get how truly awful it actually is. This is a really catastrophic development for a country with a large share of rural/small town religious population. (That’s the voters that keep Erdogan in power by the way). One has to fuck up the life in the country so much that even Muslim families in Anatolia stop having many babies.

Low birth rate has a high correlation with reduction in religiosity. Enjoy your “liberalism”

Decrease starts when Ercogan became a president of Türkiye.

Just goes to show that having an authoritarian religious conservative government in power does nothing to produce more babies.

So how long before Istanbul is not too crowded and i can visit?

    12. This is a trend everywhere in the world I don’t think Erdogan was the cause of this obviously. But nevertheless his policies to counter this trend don’t work

    13. I know that this is a general problem in other countries as well, but isn’t the drop ridiculously quick? From 2.19 to 1.48 in 10 years?

    14. Big-Today6819 on

Quite amazing this problem is moving all around the world now, how is it looking in India and China?

He is about to announce a new law: Women who give birth to three children will be awarded the status of public official, which means they will not need to participate in exams to work for the government.

Having an okay life here for 4 people you need around $10K, it’s the most bullshit number you can see ever! Switzerland level bullshit.

I’m living solo no rent and having a little social life puts me around $3K+, and I got 0 luxury items, it’s just needs and occasional comfort.

Turkey is expensive AF, I have no interest in making kids that will also suffer the same crap I do. No thank you. I’ll have a few cats and that will be that.

And governement says it is because of “LGBT propoganda”.

While Turkish people live in poverty, majority of the current youth will never, ever own a house in their lifetime.

Birth rate below replacement level and according to official metrics net migration is negative, yet the population somehow keeps increasing every year… Mythosis maybe?

    19. Kobajadojaja on

The strange thing about these graphs of total fertility rate is that all of them have the same problem that we see here:
Even though the rate is below the “replacement line” for 25 years the population still increased (by 1/3) until recently.

A better parameter is cohort fertility rate, where we measure number of children born at the end of womens childbearing age. Although it does have a lag. This parameter shows the average number of children born to a women at the of her childbearing years.

if a system is not sustainable it ll change.

not all countries in the world can attract enough immigrants to kick the can.
