‘Child’ settles case?
Parents…
There isn’t a kid alive that hasn’t fallen and bumped their head. We won’t be able get insurances for any businesses with this craic.
Absurd.
Name and shame the parents for taking advantage of the law in this way.
..and queue the legal system defenders explaining why big payouts are a great thing.
Parents and judges need to fuck off. This is why we can’t have nice affordable things.
Seriously? My sisters kid fell coming out of crèche and broke the reinforced window with her head and didn’t sue, accidents happen not everything is a liable responsibility
Pathetic from parents
Parents smelled a quick cash grab.
Then they’ll wonder why no creche wants their kids and why so many creches have to charge, ffs the government have them crippled and people getting mad subsidised payments, some folks with kids in a creche full time paying less than 60 quid a week and having a moan about it. Creches should come away from as many of the government fundings as they possibly can.
The headline made me visualise a kid in a suit and brief case acting as their own lawyer.
No cut! No scar! Literally just a bump!

Trip and fall school
These awards are puzzling. I was in a car crash last Dec, when I was stopped at the lights & rear-ended by a SOB. In bits since with lower & upper back damage. Decided to seek compo, as the physio & medical bills are steep. My solicitor tells me recovery is in the €7-9k range + expenses. Its not a lot (is it) & I don’t follow these huge awards/settlements we see reported. Yes, that is a personal gripe, but what is Redditt if not lots of personal opinions & snappy one liners….
Next day parents: creche is too expensive and even those that exist dont take any more children, government this, Taoiseach that…get the f out
Jeez my kids would be multi millionaires if we sued every time they tripped over something in Crèche
40k for a bump on the head 🤦🏻♂️
Until the courts and insurance companies stop incentivising people trying to find blame in every accident, this behaviour will continue.
Question.
So, say I own a crèche and now this has happened, and the parents apply to have that child go to my crèche, am I able to tell them “not a fucking hope” because if your child hurts themselves you’ll. just drag me to court?
This are clearly frivolous lawsuits, how is that not stopped by the courts?
Full details from the story:
A child who, it was claimed, tripped and fell at a creche, suffering a bump to her forehead, has settled a High Court action for €40,000.
Doireann Collins was three years old at the time of the accident eight years ago, when it was claimed she tripped on a mat flooring tile and struck her head on the corner of wooden decking.
Doireann Collins, now aged 11 years, of Rochestown Avenue, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, had through her father Shane Collins, sued Park Academy Ltd, with registered offices at The Park, Cabinteely, Dublin, over the accident eight years ago at the Park Academy Childcare, Bray premises, at Southern Cross Road, Bray, Co Wicklow.
It was claimed the child tripped on June 15, 2017, and fell on an alleged unsecured mat flooring tile and she struck her head on the corner of wooden decking.
In the proceedings, it was claimed there was an alleged failure to keep and maintain the property and an alleged failure to remove all allegedly dangerous and harmful material from the vicinity.
It was further claimed there was an alleged failure to provide safe and proper pathways and safe areas for the children to play.
It was further contended there was an alleged failure to have proper regard for the safety of the child.
All of the claims were denied.
It was claimed the child suffered a substantial and noticeable bump on her forehead and an ice pack was applied. She was then brought to a medical centre, where an abrasion with soft tissue swelling was noted. There was no loss of consciousness and the little girl was discharged with precautionary head injury instructions.
In the days after, the little girl presented as uncomfortable, upset and distressed, but she made a full recovery.
Ms Justice Nuala Jackson approved the settlement
