Fianna Fáil Cllr Seán Martin led the calls at the May meeting of Cork City Council on Monday, with a motion urging the council to work with other government agencies and elected representatives to formulate a plan “to take back the city centre.”
He was accused of telling lies, sensationalising the problem, and damaging the city’s reputation, but he told councillors that two of his four children have been the victims of assault in the city, while a daughter of his witnessed a savage assault outside a nightclub.
It seems some.Cllr would rather point score than actually sort out something in Cork City

“Fianna Fáil Cllr Seán Martin led the calls…. with a motion urging the council to work with other government agencies and elected representatives to formulate a plan “to take back the city centre.”
“… a motion to address a range of issues beyond security including dereliction, vacancy and retail strategy”
That’s just a motion saying someone should have a plan to do their jobs.
So fucking performative for the aul wans who vote for him.

Lost my wallet in cork on oliver plunket street a month ago. A tenner in cash but my licence my travel card my bank card and a 100 euro voucher in it.
Walked to Anglesea street station no luck but try tomorrow may not have been handed in yet. Walked to the bridewell station hadn’t finished describing it before the garda was reaching for it.
Nothing taken no name left for gratitude.
Look it’s an anecdote not data but i’ve never felt unsafe in cork city and I have spent alot of time walking between the mercy and Kent station over the last six months often in the dark to hit visiting hours.
If there’s one thing that desperately needs takling it’s vacancy and dereliction.

Was in Cork for the first time in like 9 years last month. To say it has gone to the dogs would be a gross understatement. I was mortified, not only with the usual shite every major city in the country is infested with these days (open dealing, homeless everywhere, scramblers ripping through the streets at all hours, young scrotes harassing random people) but also the city itself looks so grim??? So many of the buildings around the main streets look so tired and dilapidated looking, the streets are also filthy. Lots of empty commercial units too.
There was no buzz at all in the city in the evening and the train I took in and out of the city back to the hotel was full crackheads and knacks. The vibes were rancid to say the least. The English Market was still nice though in fairness but that’s it. Wouldn’t go back in a hurry, makes Dublin look like Dubai in comparison. At least in the big smoke you can stick to the nicer parts of town. Problem is I have no idea how you’d even begin to fix it, the rot has truly set in and you’d need to spend a fortune to get it back on its feet. So many social, structural and economic problems you’d actually fear that we are going the way of the UK in terms of managed decline if our second city is this big of a hole.

Reopen spike island and the other half of cork prison they aren’t using for some godforsaken reason, and your problem will solve itself as suspended sentences for repeat offenders will go out the window and dangerous scumbags locked up.

Here’s [a picture](https://www.echolive.ie/corksport/arid-40868738.html) of his brother, the Taoiseach, presenting an award in 2022 to a fella responsible for some of the worst dereliction for 20 years on [North Main Street](https://tripeanddrisheen.substack.com/p/unpaid-fines-on-62-65-north-main) and [Barrack Street](https://tripeanddrisheen.substack.com/p/two-derelict-barrack-st-houses-acquired) in the Martin’s constituency.
