      I don’t think I’ll ever understand how I work for the public sector, literally managing millions of pounds of public money and yet I’d get sacked if I did this with a supplier/customer. Yet an mp or councillor can just put it on a register and off they trot.

      I’m all for punishing rampant council corruption, especially in planning, but this seems extremely tenuous.

      I mean this doesn’t even make sense. Spurs bribed a councillor with charity match tickets in order to fake outrage about the tree being felled in order to cover for a company that happens to be part owned, four corporate levels removed, by the same giant investment company?

      I mean why did they need the councillor at all if they could just make Toby Carvery cut the tree down directly?

      The graun needs to get out more. Maybe they could do some meaningful journalism like they used to before Viner took over.

      Oh matey this is the least of the corruption worries in this country.

      You couldnt get a contract on crossrail without first losing a ranger over or building a couple of extensions on some out of town houses. All paid for by the tax payer.

      Who on earth would go and watch Spurs?

      I’m not convinced about the Spurs connection for this. Didn’t Spurs’ training ground plans explicitly leave these trees as a recreational area? Why would they want it cut down so much?

      To be honest this one seems like a cock-up and an over-enthusiastic tree surgeon rather than some dastardly plot.
