      Genuinely one of the stupidest things they’ve ever done, what are they gonna use the money for?? Give Leinster more funding??? I don’t even watch 7s but my god

      The 7s bottled the Olympics just like the 15s do every 4 years, so I can see why they pulled it. Rumour has it, they’re trying really hard to win a knockout game of rugby

      The 7s has been great to watch, with Ireland an exciting team to follow. Fucking dumb decision.

      The IRFU needs to hire a few consultants from greyhound racing Ireland to help them fill out the government grant forms.

      Ah here now. I love to watch a bit of 7s now and then. Yeah I don’t follow it like 15s but it’s great to have a team there. How much does it actually cost to find a 7s team. I doubt the chaps are pulling in mega bucks

      That’s such a huge shame, really enjoyed watching the 7’s tournaments.

      It’s an olympic sport. It should be able to get it’s own funding stream. Would help if they ever promoted it a bit more. Hosted some out of completion matches/tournaments or something so people could actually go and watch.

      What an absolutely woeful decision.

      We behave like such a poor country in so many ways. Getting rid of a senior international team in an Olympic sport just to save a few bob. The country that the sport’s governing body is based in no less.

      Right decision. Can’t dilute one at the expense of another costly too with wages travel accommodation etc.

      I never thought the 7’s would be dropped before the rugby league team (yes I know they are backed by different organizations but still)

      Correct decision. Those Quarter Finals won’t lose themselves lads. Full focus on 2027 now.

      seems crazy. lots of top international 15s stars have come from 7s

      This seems rather dumb. Surprised the Olympic program isn’t even covering some of the cost of the 7s team considering how good of a chance it is of an Olympic medal

      A real shame. Was able to watch the lads in Vancouver and had a great time with it.

      This was always going to happen. World Rugby completely gutted 7’s a few weeks ago and Ireland were relegated to playing on the training pitches during the LA round while the select few chosen teams competed in the main event. 7’s rugby is essentially done because of some utterly stupid decision making outside the IRFU’s control. It’s a real shame since the game was so well received during the Olympics.

      Hopefully this will be the start of some romantic tale where 7 amateur rugby players decide to club together and go to the Olympics themselves. With Netflix at the kitchen table for the first team meeting.

      This is the only chance I have to see Ireland play rugby in Canada. Devastating stuff
