His “military history” or lack thereof speaks for itself. Coward and a bully.

Friendly reminder that when France was getting demolished by Germany and the UK was desperately extracting the BEF from Dunkirk, preparing itself for the Battle of Britain, the US was literally drinking booze and blocking oil shipments from going into Japan. Moreover, many influential people in the US had a kink for Adolf and the Third Reich.

The only US territory that got hit by the war were the US islands on the Pacific, meaning that no one that lived in cities like New York,Los Angeles, Washington etc. ever saw the war. Meanwhile, every single city in Europe got hit by the war.

The day we’ll acknowledge a lesson in dignity by the United States is the day the Earth starts spinning backwards

    3. ConfusedAdmin53 on

      >(Trump) said the U.S. should do more to acknowledge its own leading role in winning.

      Because 80 years of self-aggradizing wasn’t enough. 😁

    4. And as always, I don’t see the US thanking the French for their revolution ever. Without us they’d still be an English colony /s

Countries in the EU Trump knows of on the top of his head.

He’s a perfect American president. All the stereotypes are in him.

I loathe this man for a myriad of reasons, but the one thing I will never forgive him for is forcing me to defend France twice in the space of 4 months so far.

    9. AntonioClaus on

Yes, hopefully Macron (and Merz) will finally stop trying to suck up to him.

“But I think we did a little more to win the war than France did”?

      “We”?

      Was he there?

    11. vomicyclin on

Maybe France should remind Trump on their next Independence Day of what the French accomplished for the USA?

Not that it would have any ā€œteachingā€ effect on Trump, it would just be funny to see how he reacts to the fact that the war of independence would have gone another way without them…

during WW2 the Soviets did most of the fighting while their industrial base was destroyed by the German invasion, also the Chinese fought the bulk of the Japanese Army . America’s greatest contribution was its industrial base who worked uninterrupted behind the the safety of the Pacific and the Atlantic

Any country that Trump makes fun of is a country that I will support through my purchases.

An ignorant obese arrogant buffoon. Im happy that the American people finally got a president that represent their likeness.

I’m all for bashing France it’s in my blood but fuck you Orange man what France did during WW2 was incredible they sacrificed so many life’s so Britain was able to retreat to fight another day they had countless resistance movements that did incredible damage and was a source of great intelligence.

    16. Trump is every negative and vile stereotype everyone has ever accused Americans of dialled up to 11 and presented unironically and completely without shame – which in itself is another stereotype.

      >”Every country I’ve spoken to in the last week is celebrating the war but us. Isn’t that terrible?””

Did you mean celebrating “the end of the war” ? Because no one in the Europe “celebrate the war”

    18. whyreadthis2035 on

The sacrifice and loss and meaning of WWII can’t be undermined by an enemy. How about just shunning this guy? If we stop giving him a voice we can calm down. I’m not saying forget he exists. America has shown it is no longer a close ally. As an American I’m devastated and doing what I can. But, France, Europe, the world needs to move into a role that works around the US. One that builds a tomorrow with new allies. I wish I could say a majority of Americans want this to be different. But, if that was true, Trump wouldn’t have a second term. Focus on a future. Trump’s not gonna change unless you outbid Qatar. And America is going to have to go through its collapse to learn what it has.

    19. A day without insulting anyone is lost to this administration…

    20. SatchSaysPlay on

Not mocking them about literally giving you independence because without them Britain had already battered the USA and had them well and truly beaten

    21. BaritBrit on

      > “Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump continued. “Now, we don’t take credit for what we do. And I said, what the hell? Every country I’ve spoken to in the last week is celebrating the war but us. Isn’t that terrible?”

Yes, because if there’s one thing the Americans are famous for, it’s being quiet and understated about their role in winning the Second World War.Ā

    22. Paper_Pusher8226 on

Trumps knowledge military history is clearly limited to whatever he remembers from old WWII movies lol

    23. Quetzalchello on

Has anybody pointed out to Trump who’s the head of the US government right now, and so whose job it is to lead commemorative events? šŸ¤¦šŸ¼

You know what. I’m cool with that. This is the natural result of the recreational xenophobia they have been indulging in since decades, left-leaning redditors included.

iT’s oNlY a bIT oF bAnTeR bRo, the galaxy brain will tell me after shitting a censored France for the 50th time online or saying it’s normal to hate us because we be snooty or some other shit. Well, it sure is now that their normalization of such xenophobia reached the top.Ā

So yeah, fuck those losers. They got the President they deserved.Ā

    25. I remember having this conversation with my peers … when I was about 9.

    26. ginestre on

With a strong academic background in history and a clear and acknowledged military service, the president is well placed to make such comments.

He is just a bully, he could have said something about the Russian parade as well.

    28. IEvenShitIce on

Lately I have begun viewing the US as just a country full of spare parts.

    29. rickdangerousrider on

So, the French had 212000 military deaths and 390000 civilian losses and the USA had 135567 military losses in Europe.
This guy is a shame to all Americans

    30. gabbercharles on

Of all batshit crazy BS this guys spews out, this is the least surprising of all. We all know he – and a lot of other US citizens – perceive history like this. And even though is is clearly skewed, it is – on a surface level – somewhat true. No hard feelings here.

This is the guy who during his last term refused to attend memorial/commemorative services at Normandy because it was raining.
