support for far right parties is generally growing in countries where its not part of the government( Romania, Germany, France, UK) and falling or at most stable in countries where it is part of the government( Hungary, Netherlands, Sweden, Austria)
makes me think that for many of the far right voters, their protest vote disillusion starts to kick in as they realize the new rulers are no better than the old rulers
also says a lot about the fact that we shouldnt demonize the voters themselves, as not all are too far gone into the far right , and a lot of them simply voted for it as a form of protest, while not agreeing fully with the parties
EDIT: US is no different. Democrats overperformed and Republicans underperformed in every special election since November 2024, even in deep red Florida ,counties moved towards Democrats by 10 points compared to the 2024 result
the nice thing that ,once far right is in power, they are the new incumbents and get the heat for everything bad that happens

i guess the strategy of letting PVV into government, letting it fuck up and embarass itself worked pretty well?
wonder if it would work as well in other contexts
any Dutch redditor could bring more details as to why the PVV is now falling in polls?

While there was hope a few weeks ago the ruling parties would steer towards new elections (PVV was doing well in the polls and had lots to gain), they are now at a point were 3 out of 4 parties will have a major losses if there would be new elections.
Only the VVD could end it all but they won’t because they most likely would need to work together with the center/center left after new elections and would have to “give up” too much.
So the VVD will wait and let it all collapse when they feel confident enough about the polls. This could go on for months or years and the country will be shambles due to this opportunistic behavior – because the issues at hand they said they would to solve cannot be solved by them.

Dutch politics is wild, biggest political party during the last 7 or so years has been
* FVD – antisemitic antivaxxers
* BBB – farmer lobby in europes most urban country.
* NSC – some grey politician who people all of a sudden decided had personally all the answers for about a month
* PVV – one-man party former antimoroccan far right who every moroccan ive spoken to seems to have voted for now.
Everyone goes from like zero to 30% and back to zero.
Y’all an easily excitable volatile lot.

Good to see this. As a Dutchman it hurts to see pro-Russian, anti-EU parties like PVV and FvD get any support whatsoever. And to think that the PVV has been above 30%, yikes guys. I hope this trend continues, we could really use some sanity back in our politics.

The NSC isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders either. Pity. I’m sure it would’ve done better in the opposition, and kept Omtzigt fighting fit.

The same happened in Denmark after the 2015 election when the right wing party became one of the largest parties. They had no idea what to do with their power and in the following elections they imploded and fractured into a handful of smaller parties that still can’t seem to get a hold on the right wing.

Lucky you, the situation is the same in Italy, with the far right being absolutely useless, but here they’re still polling at around 28%

This because they are in the governing cabinet and they are completely useless. Their ministers suck as do their members of parlament of which some never even show up for work.
The current coalition has made so little new law proposals that the Dutch version of the Senate is complaining that they have nothing to do. It is hiliriously bad.

If there is one thing to admire about far right voters is how loyal they are. The PVV has wrecked the country and achieved basically non of their stated goals. But they still poll at 19%. If left wing people were so blind to the actual actions and opinions of our politicians we would sweep every election.
