      > “bunk beds are now being purchased and introduced and implemented”

A solution known to the rest of the world for ages.

      > warned of “a lack of awareness” in the courts of non-custodial sentencing options.

Come on. Non custodial is all they know.

I realise this sub is not big on nuance on this topic but people in prison are people too, who are still entitled to basic human rights and dignity. Our prison system is already a fuckin disgrace (see ‘slopping out’) and forcing people to sleep on floors and share tiny spaces with strangers is beyond despicable. If we cannot house people in prisons safely and with regard to their fundamental basic needs then no, those people by definition should not be in there.

There is a solution here but bunkbeds is absolutely not it.

Build a fucking prison. A big one. Triple the sentences for sex offenders and decriminalise weed for a start.

Maybe a larger single bed that they could share would be more economical.

Build a bloody prison up the arse end of Leitrim for gods sake, out Glengevlin for example. A spot where few people enter and even fewer leave.

Most said people end up lost in Kiltyclogher in a sort of time warp with big Tom for company. Or so we are to believe.
