But no-one respects Trump. They may say they do, but aside of cap wearing right wing zealots, Apprentice fans, and wanton millionaires, the only people who respect Trump are those who appear to have low grade education.
That said, did anyone truly expect him to go? Honestly? It’d be a bit like, I don’t know, Ron Jeremy turning up to a condom convention held in a lunchtime break at a sausage factory in say, Drogheda, Ireland.
In reality, Zelenskyy was the only one disrespected here.

This is what Trump said. He also said the US is willing to make even more concessions to Russia for a temporary ceasefire.
Zelensky is trying to appeal to Trump’s ego.
It may work.
Trump admires Putin. But he also wants to win a Nobel Prize and to be respected (read: feared) on a global stage.
Trump has no real friends. He will throw his so-called friends under the proverbial bus if it soothes his ego, appeals to his desire for revenge, or otherwise moves him.
Trump has needed Russian money to prop up his failed real estate ventures. But now that he has found alternative sources of capital with his cryptocurrency bribery scam, he may feel less dependent upon Russian oligarchs and find reasons to get angry at Putin for embarrassing him.
Trump will never love Ukraine or democracy. But he may eventually help Ukraine if it is a way to seek vengeance on his former friend who denied him his “deal.”
Zelensky taunted Putin ahead and then plays this card. Anyone with a brain can see that he sabotaged any possible meeting by once again, running his mouth. Zelensky doesn’t want peace.
Someone should wake up Zelensky.
This is supposed to be a historic meeting where Ukraine and Russia negotiate directly for the first time in a long time to hopefully plan an end to this pointless war and all anyone in media cares about is that Russia has sent a delegation instead of Putin arriving there himself and the optics of who looks stronger. Yeah this is doomed, no one is ready to end this war
Let’s call Putin for what he is: “a coward hiding behind kremlin walls”

Russia: Announces time and place for meeting for talks, announces team to travel to Istanbul for peace talks.
Zelensky and Reddit: Putin didn’t come, coward. Doesn’t want peace!!!!!
Meeting like in 2022, same place, same people from Russia, but Zelensky in even worse position
To be fair both of them are absolute douchebags who deserve no respect from anyone whatsoever.
I like this approach by Zelensky though, Trump is an ego monster so it could legit work.
Putin knows it is a lose-lose situation. The guy is smart, his KGB senses are tingling and his KGB knowledge knows exactly what would happen.
Imagine if he went there, and Zelensky walks up to him and offers him a handshake. If Putin accepts it he will appear weak in Russia. If he doesn’t accept it, he will appear weak in front of Erdoğan and Trump and the world.
He also risks getting put on the spot by Trump in yet another unhinged press conference. Imagine Trump and Putin having a private meeting, then Trump goes in front of the cameras and garbles up another word salad about how Putin is sorry and doesn’t want war. That would not be a good look for Putin.
There’s absolutely no chance in hell Putin will go anywhere near Trump or Zelensky. It’s all about image and control of the situation. In Istanbul he would have no control and he knows it.
