Can we not have a life sentence without the minimum for cases like this?

      >The trial heard that Thibou had lunged at a man, Adjei Isaac, during the fight on 25 August – family day at the carnival.

      >As Mr Isaac tried to avoid being stabbed, he came into contact with Ms Maximen, who fell to the ground. She was then stabbed by Thibou.

If I’ve understood this correctly (and I’ll freely admit I’m not familiar with the case), it sounds like she was a bystander that got caught in a fight, rather than a deliberate target? It’s therefore interesting that he’s been sent down for murder, rather than a lesser charge that didn’t include intent. Is it that he was still intending on killing Isaac that makes it murder? Or the fact that stabbing is a deliberate act, even if it wasn’t premeditated?

Not that it really matters, of course. He’s obviously (to use the correct legal terminology) a wrong ‘un, who will hopefully be off the streets for a significant amount of time.

Some people just seize on every opportunity to throw their life away. Reminds me of the Boondocks cartoon.

Must be some kind of correlation between Notting Hill carnival goers and multiple stabbing every single year. Strange..

I went to Notting Hill carnival once, and that was too many times

I’m sure this thread won’t be a mess of knee jerk calls for capital punishment or claims about barbaric culture. 10 points for the first person to spot the words “it’s not racist”

Somehow I knew what this man’s ethnicity would be before I clicked the link 👀

      > Shakeil Thibou, 20, from Kensington in west London, was sentenced at the Old Bailey where he was ordered to serve a minimum term of 29 years.

He must have been a very wealthy man if he was able to live in Kensington. Or come from a very wealthy family. I don’t think socioeconomic factors play in in this murder. Just an outright evil creature
