In a statement to the Irish Examiner, the department of health said the Health (Assisted Human Reproduction) Act 2024 signed into law last July will regulate fertility clinics providing services including posthumous assisted human reproduction. However, the legislation has not yet been commenced.
The statement confirmed posthumous assisted human reproduction is not among the services currently funded through the publicly-funded treatment initiative for assisted human reproduction. It added that it “is not envisaged to be included in any forthcoming extension of the initiative”.
What a horrible situation for this lady
Can you even get IVF through the public healthcare system?
If so, why is this a thing? Being able the have a child seems like a privilege, not a right.

It’s kind of baffling that she’s being denied this. This can only be an oversight on the policy’s part
I know Melanie very well for years now and am a cancer survivor myself. She was telling me all about this a few weeks ago and my heart broke for her all over again. First, to lose Dylan the way she did then get this thrown in her face. Nah, Melanie and Dylan memory deserves better.
They followed the rules and did everything even though Dylan was going through so much. She has something to carry on his legacy and memory. This wall she’s come up against is a load of bollox when they did all the proper things. It’s not like he died and she’s trying to get access for something he never agreed to.
Disgusting and I hope she’s granted access. Fair dues to everyone who came together and made their wedding possible also. Saviours of humanity right there.
