      The only way to stop these dangerous crossings is to remove the incentive. Illegal channel crossings will cost Labour the next election.

      Whatever your views on the legal aspects of this, it’s pretty terrible that people die. It’s dangerous. They need to be told before they even try. That is my ‘sensible and compasionate’ take.

      On a more practical note, it just needs to be stopped by whatever means.

      Set up a processing centre in Calais where they can apply for asylum. Send back anyone who arrives via small boat, so the people smugglers can’t exploit people who get rejected.

      Right now, the only way to apply for asylum is on British soil. Make it so the only way to apply is on the other side of the channel and these deaths will stop happening.

      I’m not a big fan of Brexit but do you have any theories why Brexit?

      My personal opinion is smart phones, social media and influencers. They come over, create content and tell their mates how great it is. That creates a snowball effect as more and more come over. Lawyers yea h them what to say and how to say it to get granted “asylum” status.

      It will get worse every year till the incentive is taken away.
