    1. Can’t israel just stop being nazi’s and be the western democracy they pretend to be instead of spending millions to try (and fail) to influence public opinion?

I also saw adverts for Spain. Not shocked by advertising. But I don’t think that explains the huge amount of votes.

Shocking, the sky is blue, water is wet and blood is red

    4. cueca2000 on

Just for adverts? They were blowing hamas phones, what do you think that have done now.

    5. Electronic_Bit_5331 on

If you don’t want to vote for Israel, an ad isn’t going to convince you, especially not considering the circumstances.

    6. Vyslante on

A lot of people are claiming they actually bought votes or whatever forget one very important thing: there is only one Israel.

That is to say, people everywhere have only one vote to do, while people who, for ideological reasons want to vote against them have 25 other options, diluting any opposition.

I was seeing non-stop adverts on Youtube in here in Serbia.

    8. _Woland_- on

That’s just a smokescreen, a pretext to justify the high number of televotes received. In my opinion, though, the result is unrealistic, even taking into account targeted campaigns. Given that every vote generates revenue, and that Eurovision’s main sponsor is Israeli, it’s clear that the EBU will never provide any clarification alleged fraud or data that could undermine the credibility of the organization.

I am not familiar with the Eurovision song contest. Sounds interesting. What was it about?

    10. Manealendil on

I saw the Ad and knew after two seconds who and why this was being paid for

    11. pocoyoO_O on

I got that actually. Thought not was or troll an add to other things

8 million *views* is nothing, lol. Especially not when Shorts are counted too.

The real story here is that Israel stil being somewhat popular in Europe doesnt conform to many people’s perspective in their own Insta bubbels. So in stead of admitting they are stuck in a small bubble they just look for reasons to discredit Israels eurovision near win.

OMG! THE EVIL JEWS WITH THEIR EVIL JEWISH STATE PAID FOR ADS! HOW DIABOLICAL!?!?

This could be one of the tamest conspiracy theories yet.

    14. Professional-Mix1771 on

Okay, so what? It was still people who voted. If masses can be easily swayed by simple ads does it mean that the whole voting system is broken and unreliable and shouldn’t be used?

    15. “Look at me, see this? this is a look of un-fucking-surprise on my face.”

    16. Yeah and it costs less to set up a bunch of cards / phones to get A LOT of votes than running this ad campaign likely.

    17. Harto_Forza_77 on

You think? Every time I put on YouTube the first thing I seen was the ad plastered all over the page

    18. Elinda44 on

      From the article:

      > There were also ad campaigns for other entries this year. Social media users in parts of Europe reported seeing sponsored posts for Malta, Greece, Albania, Poland, Armenia and France

    19. Urbanited on

Not to be that guy. But dutch radio channels were endlessly promoting the dutch contestant and telling people when he’d be performing. I find it shady too that Israel got so many votes. But this doesn’t explain it for me tbh.

    20. VicenteOlisipo on

And this is just the public facing, out-in-the-open side of how that state uses EBU to whitewash itself and uses the open nature of European democracy to buy itself political influence and PR.

    21. Sakakidash on

All countries advertise their songs. Only Israel is vilified for doing stuff like this.

    22. AlienInOrigin on

Try posting something here on Reddit that is very midly critical of Israel and see how many Israeli bots downvote you.

They are experts at online manipulation.

    23. FootCheeseParmesan on

Government who has spent decades demonstrating they will do underhanded strategies and paid propaganda to achieve goals does underhanded strategy and paid propaganda.

How anyone is defending them for free anymore, I’ll never understand.
