In 2022, after repelling enemy advances on the approach to Kyiv, the 72nd Brigade was redeployed to the Bakhmut sector. From late summer that year until autumn 2024, they defended Vuhledar, holding off numerous large-scale assaults. Afterward, they were moved south for rest, recovery, and coordination with new recruits. The brigade is now positioned in the Pokrovsk direction.
