At first I brushed this off as a sensationalist headline, but it does genuinely seem that most people aged 16+ in 2008 will be entitled to some of this payout. Best of luck to you all.
And now stand by for the blizzard of scam emails and text messages that only need for you to provide all your bank details and pay this fee by card to receive the money.
“UK consumers will reportedly be able to register to receive a payment by completing a simple online form, whether of they owned a Mastercard card or not.”
How long before the 1st claim your Mastercard compensation scam is launched? They really need to think of a way to do this without training people to enter their personal details in a random online form.
So £200m compensation in total, less than £3 each if everyone claims. To get £70 would require less than 3 million applicants.
Of course not everyone will claim, but I’d be surprised if people get anywhere near £70 since this will be shared everywhere. Still, might get me a free sausage roll from Greggs so can’t complain.
The BBC seems to say £70 is the maximum payout each, as it’ll be split between all the people claiming – the more people claim, the smaller the slice will be.
> The entire settlement is for £200m, with £100m ringfenced for consumers who have until the end of this year to claim and if the expected 5% of claimants – 2.5 million people – come forward, then each will receive £45.
> If fewer people apply, payments will be capped at £70 per claimant.
So if every adult claims, we’d get about £1.40 each

‘The Mastercard payout of £200 million is expected to result in an average payout of £45 per claimant if 2.5 million people (5% of those eligible) come forward to claim.’
More than 5% of people will claim. So, it’ll work out at less than £10. So a waste of effort. They might as well donate it to good causes.
Bit of an all over the place article, didn’t seem right so I looked elsewhere, and it seems the £70 is the cap if claims don’t hit a target:

Still seems confusing, but a bit more information from [BBC News](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c14kkjyrk20o)
Nothing to see here folks, you probably won’t get anything so I wouldn’t even bother registering. Please don’t go ahead with this, it’s probably a scam.
