That’s a fucking joke. Let the tour be cancelled – maybe it’s a brutal consequence of your actions.

Why is there ANY consideration within law or the justice system for plans?

Unless it’s something like a family member being on end of life, or attending a close relations funeral, there should be absolutely no discretion.

Celebrities being above the law or treated differently seriously makes my blood boil…

So, what’s the chance he goes on his world tour and never returns to the UK. How likely is it that he can be extradited

    3. ClaphamOmnibusDriver on

As a note, he hasn’t been convicted of an offence at this point, he has been charged.

There is a presumption of bail unless there are reasons to deny (mainly fail to surrender to custody, witness interference or further crime).

Allowing someone to continue their employment prior to conviction is certainly a generally desirable outcome.

I would have thought there were significant concerns regarding future failure to surrender to custody, but ultimately that’s a decision for the court.

What would happen to a British celebrity if he or she did something like that in the US? Most likely prison and subsequent deportation with a ban on entry. Brown should be treated exactly the same way.

How many of you have girl mates who gush over this guy and have tickets to his uk shows? Madness right

    6. Wait you mean if you’re wealthy the law doesnt apply to you!? When did this come in?

    7. I didnt realise we did that pay for bail shit like the yanks? Does he get that back if found not guilty?

    8. misterterrific0 on

“A security fee is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court. Mr Brown could be asked to forfeit the money if he breaches bail conditions.”

What an absolute joke, you think he cares for 5M if he can get away and just not return to the country unless legally required by his home country? This is the real two tier policing which should never be allowed

Another example of why laws only matter to poor people. 5 million is pretty much a months pay for him

    10. I don’t rate our chances of ever successfully trying him for this crime. £5m is a lot, but not an unreasonable amount to lose to avoid the prospect of spending years in prison.

The last date of his European tour is Portugal on 9 July. I expect he’ll leave from the US from there and never return to the UK.

I didn’t think we did bail for money in the UK like the US guess we do

    12. cocothepops on

Who the fuck is still paying money to go and watch this piece of shit?

    13. Sweaty-Proposal7396 on

Lol if its a real case then he ain’t coming back

Will be off to the US immediately

At least government can pocket the £4m

    14. Danielharris1260 on

Given the amount of money he has I doubt he’ll care about losing £5m if it means he can keep his freedom. He is probably gonna make that this summer with his tour dates and appearances. Yes bail should be offered but only to those who don’t pose flight risks but giving it to rich celebrity who will likely not come back and is unlikely to be extradited back to the UK is insane.

    15. So here’s a hot take: The benefit to society of a £5m payment outweighs the harm caused by a single instance of GBH, so a system where people can commit GBH for a £5m fee would be a net positive.

We’ll be better off if he doesn’t return for trial and we pocket the £5m, compared to the situation where he returns, we pay for the trial, and then pay to imprison him.

    16. Spiral1407 on

How is he NOT considered as a flight risk? Honestly, the UK judicial system’s incompetence just baffles me.

    17. appletinicyclone on

He’s never going to come back to the UK is he

Can people private jet out if they’re freed on bail?

    18. Robynsxx on

£5m to get away with crimes and flee the country, which will really be £4m as he doesn’t have to pay the final million for several days.

This is pathetic. One rule for them, one rule for the rest of us.

    19. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO! FUCK CHRIS BROWN. SHOULD BE ROTTING NEXT TO DIDDY.

Jeffrey Wright, the actor, gave an interview recently lamenting how it seems that “everything is for sale” right now. I can’t stop thinking about it.

I hate this. Everything is for sale.
