Of course it does. Didn’t need a study for them to come to that conclusion. My gf suffers from horrendous periods, makes her physically sick and renders her useless for a week.
I remember having to approach teachers I didn’t know before exams to explain that I wasn’t going to make it through a three hour German literature exam without going to the toilet at least twice.
Did we need a study to prove something so obvious? Oh wait, sorry it required a study because they’re oblivious to women
It would also be helpful to tell girls what exactly is a heavy period, especially if it’s just normal to you.
>“We have to be careful we do not label women as being less capable because of their periods,” said Gemma Sharp, associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Exeter, who supervised the research. “I would not say it’s because of their periods. It’s because society is not set up to support people whilst they are menstruating, particularly if they are experiencing heavy bleeding or pain.”
I hate this weird double talk dancing around an issue. If they didn’t have heavy periods, then there wouldn’t be an issue, so why can’t we say it’s a problem? It’d be like saying someone missing a leg isn’t less capable of walking, society isn’t setup to support people with missing legs. It’s ok for people to be disadvantaged, it’s ok for it to be a problem that needs fixing.
>A separate report on period inequality published this week found that school toilets are often kept locked and permission to be excused from lessons denied, “leaving some learners on their periods to bleed through their uniforms”.
Strikes me as exactly the same problem we have with 100% of the population needing to use the bathroom to pee. It shouldn’t be allowed to restrict people going to the bathroom. People skiving off and bad behavior should be handled seperately, everyone should have the right to go and do their private buisness.

“Of course, given that this disproportionately impacts women and girls, it should be taken very seriously as a matter of inclusion and equity.”
This just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Why even say this? So if it affected men it shouldn’t be taken seriously? What are they trying to say with lines like this?
What I would have given to do remote school on my period.
There was nothing worse than cramps, diarrhea, increased urination, leaks, uncomfortable uniform, all while sitting in a room of teenagers trying to do maths and not being allowed toilet breaks. Ugh.
I recently had one of my final exams while I was on my period. I was suffering from extremely heavy cramps, I was in the exam room for three hours and throughout the night I was tossing and turning. Luckily as I have met my offers for university these exams dont matter for me that much, but I do know that for many girls like me, it could
It’d help if period poverty wasn’t still a thing, and girls got hygiene products from school.
Or the ability to go to the toilet when needed.
Not to mention that periods are genuinely painful even if you don’t have any underlying conditions
No shit, no need to tell us our schools are an Absoloute shitshow.
Oh wow, it’s almost like pain, nauseau and dizziness will make students perform worse in exams such a surprise that periods also have those symptoms.
A friend claims to suffer with endometriosis yet she can go to the pub (and take men home). Sadly I suspect she exaggerates.
Stomach cramps and the shits would ruin anyone’s day
Of course it’s associated with lower school attendance, what an unnecessary study. Although at least it’s highlighting the problem I guess. I hope some men can read this and try to understand what women suffer through.
I remember having to call my stepdad from the school secretary’s office (before mobile phones) to come and get me because the pain was so bad I wanted to scream, never mind focus on maths class.
