Made me feel a bit nauseous reading that. Whether he was a decade older or only a few years (though being 10 years older can be very intimidating to a 21 year old), imagine having to put up with someone you work with constantly asking you sexual questions. The guy in question sounds like he has absolutely no self control, what a disgusting melt .
“made comments about my physical appearance and commented on my white skin”
Bruh
I thought the fact that she hadn’t made a formal complaint would be bad for her case. But it seems the boss was aware of some of the comments the guy is supposed to have made – how that didn’t set alarm bells ringing for him is beyond me.
I’ll save you the read, the fact that she went to Trinity is irrelevant. Sub editors, what are they like
I feel like there is a rise in this sort of stuff. Only because I’ve never thought open sexual harassment would happen in a modern office, but it happened multiple times to two separate people by two separate members of management in my job.
I think if some people have enough power, they think they can do anything, and no one will report them. Plus a combo of “oh these young employees are so woke you can’t say anything in front of them these days”.
It was less so the secual innuendos and comments to the young staff, but the comingnup behind them and rubbing shoulders, or running over to help them put on their jacket when they’re going to leave and they clearly don’t want help putting on their jacket.
Anyway HR is shite. I thought they would look after the companies image so sack the creeps, but they stood with the creeps until the WRC were involved.
I’d advise anyone who experiences or sees something like to go to HR with it. If they dont get back within a suitable time frame, go straight to the WRC. Also, if your company is part of a network of companies, go to the parent company. They actually seem to want to protect the companies image and will take these claims more seriously.
Chin up girl no point crying over Split Milk.
