Would never be built due to broken planning legislation.

This is a brilliant idea. Very versatile uses for something like this. I was at a disability technology demonstration event in Switzerland (Cybathlon if you want to look it up) last year, and it was held in a venue similar to what’s planned here.
Sports on the ice, and a lot of sports & events without the ice. Dublin will do well to get this done.
Edit: also, how many Eastern European expats look to hockey (actual hockey🇨🇦, not field 🏴) growing up the same way we looked at hurling?

Has noone looked at the road & public transport infrastructure around Cherrywood. The Luas isn’t fucking magic and those interchanges strain even with some rain
Nothing on their website on whether they will be looking for any public money to build this. I would be surprised if the begging bowl does appears fairly quickly.
My first instinct is that this announcement by the OFI is part of the first steps in a carefully managed PR campaign to build up public support before a request for a large chunk of free government funds is announced down the line along with the message that if the government doesn’t pony up the cash this won’t get built. I’d imagine that the state/taxpayers will be offered nothing (or close to nothing) in terms of ownership/equity in the project.
In the initial announcement last month they said they aren’t planning on submitting their bid for planning permission until September.
To me this smells like the plan is build the project using a serious chunk of public money giving the state little to nothing in the way of any profits generated.
Maybe I’m wrong and there will be no request for public funds or any public funds provided will mean the state will hold a sizeable share of the project (and any profits made) but I am super sceptical.

If the OFI actually came out and didn’t back this idea, it would be the same as asking to be disbanded.
The company behind it has the following website
