      Translation:

A social media campaign run by accounts affiliated to Russian propaganda is trying to make the case that Romania should follow the example of Burkina Faso, led by the military leader Ibrahim Traoré. George Simion and Călin Georgescu are promoted in these messages as equivalents of the African leader.

On social networks, in particular on Facebook and TikTok, a campaign of intoxication has been going on for several days through accounts created by Russian secret services, trying to induce Romanians to admire Burkina Faso, a country that is said to have “freed itself from the slavery of France”.

Numerous posts praising Burkina Faso’s leader, Ibrahim Traoré, are being circulated on social networks.

Posts made on accounts with Romanian names highlight the alleged progress Burkina Faso has made under his leadership, as well as Traore’s opposition to Emmanuel Macron and Western officials.

The postings also highlight the support Traoré enjoys from the Russian Federation, which is presented as a power that supports development and the struggle to liberate countries from the “globalist yoke”.

The impact of the postings is very high, with some of the English-language postings in the EU area amassing hundreds of thousands of views, peaking at 1,800,000.

The campaign also extended to Romania in the run-up to the first round of voting, but has gained more visibility in the last ten days.

More recent postings show that sovereignists Călin Georgescu and George Simion are the only ones capable of applying the African leader’s successful model in Romania.

The manipulative messages were distributed on all networks with the help of bots/trolls, but were also picked up by genuine accounts.

“He brought Burkina Faso out from under the slavery of France, Ibrahim Traoré raises all African nations towards freedom and sovereignty,” reads one post in Romanian.

    2. I agree, but he should start his coup in Russia instead. Get that twat out of the Kremlin.

This is getting ridiculous. It’s an obvious attack on France mostly because France is now the new boogyman used by Russia since Trump took office again.

But it’s absolutely laughable to call yourself a patriot and wishing Romania to be more like Burkina Faso. Not even taking into consideration the dictatorship there.

Average income: BF: 860 US$ vs. RO: 16,660 US

Life expectancy males: BF: 59 years vs. RO: 73 years

Life expectancy females: BF: 63 years vs. RO: 81 years

      I rest my case.

I wasn’t sure to understand why France was involved in the last attacks. I guess that’s the answer.

Compared to the guy who lost half his country to Al-Qaeda doesn’t sound too good…

The Sahel is currently undergoing its regional variant of what the Iraq invasion did to the Middle East(extreme sectarianism, brutal foreign/regional interventions, escalation of fundamentalist militancy, headlining of military dictatorships). The situation won’t become much better in the next few years.

Seems like Russian propaganda is getting a bit desperate. They seriously couldn’t find a better example to try to whitewash?

We are very much glad to retake our position as the boogey man for the Russians.

It’s either despair or complete ignorance.
Honestly just fully disconnect Russia and all apply restrictions on all proxies they use around us.
Give Russia a leaf of respect is pathetic

    9. Russia can also take example from Burkina Faso. More and more resembling Burkina Faso too 😂

Very “clever” move for Burkina Faso to develop closer ties with Russia, and sign a deal on gold mining project, where russian company gets 85% and the government of Burkina Faso gets 15%. And to say that Traore brought Burkina Faso out from under slavery of France is funny.

Isn’t like half of Burkina Faso now under control of islamists and local secessionists?

Simion is a Kreml agent. Of course the Kreml talks him into the sky

      So I will probably sound ignorant, however I do consider myself to have at least basic geographical level;

And I have freaking no idea where Burkina Faso is and it is my assumption that most of people don’t know either.

Thus I believe propaganda doing ,,look at burkina faso” won’t be as effective as they believe.

Man, the Brits must be devastated that they’re no longer the country hated the most by the Russians. Another W for the Frenchies.

Can’t wait to see the face of the far right racists in Romania being told to follow the example of *checks notes * an African country half occupied by islamists.

    16. Miss_Annie_Munich on

I’m sure all Romanians are thrilled when you tell them that they should take Burkina Faso as their role model.
      /s (just to be sure)

I have been to Burkina Faso relatively recently, autumn last year.

I the capital there were Russian flags in some roundabouts. All French small business was done and closed, however the important ones like Total and Orange were untouched.

There was a curfew in place and a bunch of military checkpoints, getting worse the closer you were to the presidential palace. That’s a pretty good pointer on how loved putin-bootlicker Traoré is. Propaganda is flooding social media and the (mostly religious) radio stations people listen to.

The countryside was poor as hell. I was working for a UN humanitarian agency and we were transporting tens of tons of food and meds to towns all over the country. Towns closest to the mines were among the poorest, of course.

That help is now also mostly done, because USAID supplied about half of the food, lots and lots of rice and cereal, and suddenly losing that much cargo made most of the transport operation domino to shit.

I feel very sorry for the (very nice) folks there. They traded “French slavery” for being spit roasted by Putin and Krasnov 😔

Russia throwing a temper tantrum makes my day. You know you’re on the right path when they spew this propaganda lmao

I compare simion with the currency of Botswana. In fact, i’d support a petition to put his face on Botswana one banknote.

    20. New-Hall-4490 on

And 30% of Romanians still refuse to believe that Simion and Georgescu are Rudsian assets.
