SF failed to come out early with policy that set them apart from FFG. When they finally did, it was too little too late, and the single issue independents ate their lunch.

History would have them more likely to blow up bridges than build them

SF failed with loads of things

Building bridges with parties is something they have failed to do since they got created, North or South of the border

But if they want to win an election, building bridges with other parties might help but having some decent policies would be a start and flip flopping all the time is not great either

If they had come together in the last election, would it have lasted in a government? The reason we have so many left parties is because they fall out with each other so often and head off to set up their own party. If you look at the party history of all the TDs who have been part of the PBP-Solidarity-Rise setup over the past 20 years you literally have more political parties than TDs. The one thing the Left hate more than the right is other members of the left. Until they sort that out they will struggle to present a unified alternative. A faster way might be for Sinn Fein to target the seats of other Left politicians. If they really put their mind to it and ran strong candidates in the constituencies they could probably unseat all of PBP and take out most of Labour and the Soc Dems.

I get the feeling we are seeing across the Atlantic something like what we would get if SF were running the country here. There are consequences for electing a party to just give someone else a go. And like Trump SF are all full of ideas with absolutely nothing behind them.
I’m sorry but what stopped me voting for them the last time, and I was not happy at all with FFG, was the BS they were coming and no clear workings of the cost and or implementation of their sound bites. Couldn’t do it

Sf are fake modern left, majority of their votes (myself included) are traditional left.

SF will continue to push whatever bs new left bs they hear until they see a reasonable pushback.

I will not vote for them anymore and don’t see them as a serious party.

    9. That’s not it at all. The vast majority of us will vote for anyone bar SF. We don’t want a puppet government in Dublin, directed from Belfast.

It was their policies that turned people off

Like on climate change they are miles.off

If they’d cop on and stop trying to chase the fuckin right wing votes they might have half a chance at this

Because they are right wing, wait left wing, wait what do the people want this week is it more houses or less foreigners

    13. LordyIHopeThereIsPie on

SF has never been left wing.

Anti abortion for years because McGuinness was prolife.

Did zilch for abortion rights or LGBTQIA matters north or south.

Has a religious nationalistic streak incompatible with left wing policies.

Favours religious segregation in education North and South.

Fair play to her to owning up. Now if only the other left parties (aside from PBP) would do the same

    15. Jamnusor on

Sinn Fein aren’t really a party of the left. They’re right wing populists on some issues.

SF need to just focus on pushing their housing and health policies. Don’t fucking touch the culture war shit. Housing and Health is what makes them attractive
