      Europe is forgetting the lessons of WW II.

      And pretends that the damage done to other regions with colonialism and capitalism has nothing to do with it.

      Not particularly mindboggling, just deeply sad and a sign we are sliding back into chauvinism.

      I’ve been reading the same headline maybe once every few months for the past 10 years, but nothing ever happens or changes to make them fit for purpose.

      European parties allow unfettered asylum claims at the own peril. The extreme right will continue to grow if it remains the only one speaking about this. An anti-immigration left is needed.

      Whatever one’s political alignment, it’ll be good to at least be able to rationally discuss these things, people need to see a healthy system/discourse.

      “to call a public order emergency that would allow it to derogate from EU asylum law.” ok that’s taking the piss. just reform the system and drop the reactionary shit my god. build an integration system so its overseen that newcomers can do it properly and prioritize language and skills development. not rocket science.

      More countries could go for an opt-out of EU asylum and migration policies like the Dutch government wants and Denmark already has.
