Romania standing by Poland in its fight against far-right populism—especially after Romania’s recent victory over it—is truly beautiful. It’s a great example of European solidarity, with countries supporting one another to defend democracy and uphold shared European values.

That’s why I love the EU and I hope we won’t ever be separated by people like Trump or Putin!

      Good luck Poland! 🤞🇵🇱 🇪🇺

    2. He is technically not president yet, right? So president-elect? There is a difference there I would say.

I’m very proud of my country’s president: Nicușor Dan!

By the way, Nicușor is the diminutive of Nicu, which is the diminutive of Nicolae (the Romanian form for Nicholas) 🙂

You can’t fight far-right populism with centre-right neoliberalism. The fundamental problems of society, those pertaining to flawed economic policies that serve the wealthy while leaving working families to suffer from exploitation, poverty, and lack of public services and social security, will all remain.

What happened in Romania only bought us time, nothing more, until the far-right comes to power. And seeing the blind devotion to the rule of capital that our political class has, even moreso than the neoliberals of Western Europe, it is all but a question of time.

A foreign country wanting to influence elections of another sovereign country. EU doing what EU does best. Can other countries stop interfering with freaking elections please?

A bit extreme. A visit and a march is not necessarily influence, but showing support.

What about the social media manipulation? Is that an interference or not? Which is more dangerous?

**The former mayor of Bucharest and the newly elected president of Romania, Nicusor Dan, will visit Poland to support centrist and pro-EU Warsaw mayor Rafał Trzaskowski in the final stretch of his campaign before the second round of Polish presidential elections.**

*”I will attend an election campaign event in Poland to support the democratic candidate there”* – Nicusor Dan declared, quoted by Romania’s Digi24 portal, and adding that he had received an invitation from Polish political partners.

His recent rival in the Romanian elections, the far-right oriented and Moscow-aligned George Simion, recently supported Poland’s conservative Karol Nawrocki presidential bid.

There are many parallels between the 2025 presidential elections in Romania and Poland. Here and there, a well-educated, liberal and pro-European mayor of the country’s capital found himself facing a right-wing candidate with a checkered past that includes extreme forms of football hooliganism.

In Romania, on May 18, in the second round of the presidential elections, Nicusor Dan defeated George Simion.

In Poland the runoff vote between Rafał Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki is scheduled for June 1, 2025.
