What is the practical application of “declaring an emergency”? Does it mean suspending planning laws? Is that in-line with EU law? Does it mean seizing land? Is that constitutional? What does it mean?

This is long overdue. Every party that is not FFG need to organise. A divided left is how neoliberalism has taken root. FF and FG hate eachother, but they’ll come together to make sure they get to sell off the future of young people in this country. They’re smart enough to realise it’s the big picture that matters. This needs to be stopped. Make no mistake, this housing situation isn’t an accident. It’s entirely by design and the only way to stop it is to stop FFG.

    3. I’m currently reading Eoghan Murphy’s book about being minister for housing. He attempted to declare an emergency and the AG wouldn’t let him as emergency’s can’t be foreseen.

Ah, lol, of course it’s SF. Did they offer an alternative? No. Did they suggest those stupid oppositions to development should be limited? Also no.

But did Mary Lou herself opposed building 1600 new apartments, making sure 1600 families couldn’t get to rent them? Why, yes, she did, actually.

“However, in a strident objection against the apartments, Ms McDonald stated that ‘build to rent’ schemes are driven by investors seeking to exploit the high demand for housing and apartments in urban centres.

She states: “As a consequence, these developments drive up the cost of that land, making standard residential development for Dublin even more unaffordable.”

You shouldn’t be able to rent, only own!

The only emergency we have is making sure none of these morons, including FF/FG/SF, get votes out of this tragic situation.

    5. >The rally will take place outside the Dáil at 6pm on Tuesday 17 June, to coincide with a joint motion from the Opposition on the housing crisis.

Bit awkward to attend for working folk, but I understand they want it linked up with the motion. I should be able to make it.

      Let me get this right.

About two thirds of the previous Dail were landlords.

      Incumbent ones.

Now this Dail wants the public, who has already been protesting….to *check notes* protest.

Nice to see we’ve come to a circle of sorts

We need to start building new towns. We need to be ambitious. Time to reform the planning laws and use empty land in all 26 counties to build new towns with amenities like shops, restaurants, services etc. If we’re not ambitious we’ll never solve it.

We also need to deal with nimbys

Politicians call on the public…..the same people that were serving ministers as housing strategy and policy slowly slipped off the edge??

National gaslight campaign. 1984 double speak bullshit.

How’s about a protest to freeze the pensions and reduce their pay until they solve the predicament they made worse.
