Jeez that’s rough. Exploiting people who just want fair pay for fair work by dragging them through the wringer like that is low as fuck.
Also extremely common regarding renting arrangements with foreigners.
I’m one and can guarantee under 50% of Brazilians in Dublin are living under completely legal rentals. Unauthorized subletting (quite a few actually sublettings of sublettings), licensee contracts where the landlord doesn’t live there at all (dodge taxes and trying to dodge falling under RTB), cash payments to dodge taxes, non return of deposits, no contracts, completely illegal practices to evict or visit the property and so much more.
Some rare ones are caught but the risk is worth it for them. Actually 50% is almost certainly a very optimistic estimate, it’s a complete shitshow.
