Is it just me, or doesn’t anyone else hear the Minister say “fairly confident” and think what he means is “not at all confident”

      Ha ha ha

He’s so bad at lying,he can’t even manage to come across as convincing

He should be aiming for a 90 day turn around, for processing asylum applications and deportation within 30 days of the decision.

I’m pretty confident the new “vigorous screening” process will just be used as an excuse to further delay the process and frustrate removals.

High court challenge “how can you deport me to Safe Country XYZ, when my vigorous screening process was incomplete?”

I’m fairly confident he’s not confident at all

Ahh sure if you were to go by the gardai and the previous and current governments they are already being vetted.

‘Vetted’, and letting in people who were charged with rape and deported from other European countries lol

Talk about giving a sense of security to the voter. He might have as well said we are fairly confident the government will fu@k up

*The minister told reporters in Limerick: “I think we will be operating a very effective screening program once we enact and commence the International Protection Bill that I’ve got approval from government to draft, and it’ll be brought into the Oireachtas at the end of the year.”*

I take the minister at his word <shrug>.

“Fairly confident” by a politician means we are fecked.

Why does a state that existed for 100 years only realise the importance of this now.

It doesn’t matter. Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael spent the last few years allowing the anti-immigrant sentiment grow in Ireland because it had more of an impact on Sinn Féin than it did on them.

The government could begin Trump-style mass deportations tomorrow, and it would have no impact on the sentiment among a certain group of people.

They’ve allowed mis and disinformation to spread because it suited them at the time, and they’ll continue to kick the can down the road until people (and excuse me for taking a phrase right out of the far right playbook) wake up.

Why not just admit they’re beaten, and follow the uk’s latest approch.
They’re now looking at x10 far away countries to start off shore processing for all their IPO type applicants.

Denmark and others have successfully started this already, along with other measures, and the people traffickers illegal money flow has dried up there.

      I’ve just lost all confidence.

      That wouldn’t reassure a child.

JOC is making sure to enter the news cycle every now and then with an eye on the leadership position within FF after MM is gone. His tough on immigration stance is also to garner public support. Hopefully it is not performative.
