Well I mean, that hopefully means that the far right can’t latch onto false pretences, so 🤷

I don’t know, maybe it was done to avoid riots like a couple months ago because some people in this country (and from abroad) have a habit on inciting riots? In fact, some tweets are still up claiming the attacker was a Muslim or Asylum Seeker etc etc..

Might be useful to use your brain every now and then

    3. DavidSwifty on

They probably had to before the usual lot started setting hotels with asylum seekers in on fire.

    4. qwerty_1965 on

Laurence Fox was of course immediately looking for clues….

    5. BlackCaesarNT on

Well yeah, the last time they tried to be patient, racist troglodytes tried to burn down a hotel and start race riots…

    6. Adm_Shelby2 on

Probably for the best.  The information vacuum following the Southport stabbings allowed misinformation to spread and clearly contributed to angry people on the streets.

    7. GuyLookingForPorn on

Good to see the government getting ahead of the nutters and bad faith actors.

    8. strawbebbymilkshake on

People moaned and started riots when the ethnicity wasn’t released immediately for something last year. They got what they wanted (immediate release of an attacker’s demographic info), and now they’re unhappy because it’s not a scary brown man.

    9. ODFoxtrotOscar on

I think they were in an unusually volatile situation because there was already a large crowd there (for the event)

They were having enough trouble getting people away from the car (which we now know had 4 people trapped underneath, one of them a child according to last nights statement from the fire services) so it could be lifted safely. Last thing they needed was the crowd kicking off elsewhere

    10. TealuvinBrit on

Well, we can’t have people like Farage spread misinformation and then deny any involvement in spreading said misinformation.

    11. Mackem101 on

There was (and still is)a picture of an innocent man getting shared as the ‘driver’, the police probably didn’t want him getting murdered because of those lies.

    12. TheFergPunk on

It’s quite sad that we’re at this stage where stuff like this is needed.

It’s an never ending battle because anything short of perfection will result in a barrage of angry people.

    13. Necessary-Product361 on

The reason the Southport attacker’s identity was held back was because he was 17 at the time. The police were extra speedy yesterday because since the riots they don’t want the far right caliming it was an asylum seeker (which some already did in like the hour before he was revealed). Last time that happened there were riots and yesterday there were hundreds of thousands of angry people on the streets of Liverpool. Now instead of caring about the attack (because he is white), the far right still look to be victims and go on about how the attacker was revealed too early, despite the fact that last time they were rioting over the fact he wasn’t revealed early enough!

    14. IceGripe on

They need to do this with every suspect. That’s the only way to defeat hysteria.

    15. FuzzBuket on

Well duh. Last time they didn’t and the press whipped folk into a frenzy that resulted in racists setting fire to a hotel where innocent men, women and children were living, and having pogroms attacking non white people.

    16. Brottolot on

      Yeah I wonder why that’s become necessary…

Christ people are idiots reacting without information.

    17. ash_ninetyone on

I’m fine with this if they know who it is straight away.

Just to shut down any misinformation before it gets a chance to spread.

      Same with publishing crime statistics.

It did also help that they had the guy in custody pretty much instantaneously.

    18. We know why they released it quickly. It’s not rocket science, when there’s a certain crowd chomping at the bit to racially motivate every tragic event. Let’s not forget the Wimbledon school crash.

    19. Omnislash99999 on

Well after seeing comments on the various threads certain people were already spreading vile shit at unprecedented speed based on their assumptions so they likely wanted to get ahead of that

    20. windmillguy123 on

OP, are you angry at their efficiency or that you don’t get to be racist?

    21. BrowniieBear on

Has anyone got any more ideas, is this just some pissed off lunatic that couldn’t get his car out or some moron thats let’s football emotions get the better of them and annoyed Liverpool’s won

    22. zonked282 on

” hey guys, this person is white British, so before the usual knuckle dragging suspects start baseless speculation and looting stores and starting fires again can we just nip it in the bud…”

    23. jjlbateman on

The reason is because it quells the usual nut jobs starting fires. Notice how there aren’t any now.

That’s also why it makes sense to delay if they weren’t white, to avoid causing more carnage off the back of this

    24. Combat_Orca on

The right will do anything to create a headline for themselves out of a tragedy.

    25. Longjumping_Stand889 on

Got to keep a lid on things, the country’s a tinderbox. Probably good there’s been some rain.

    26. jeanclaudebrowncloud on

For all we know it could be a far right terror attack, it could be a poor guy having a heart attack while driving.

But we know what it wasn’t.

    27. BloodyRedBarbara on

You just know if they didn’t reveal that he was a white British man then all the right wing racists would be instantly coming out with the usual assumptions

    28. BaBeBaBeBooby on

It’s right they released it quickly. And should do always. If they don’t people will (and rightfully given the authorities are hiding something) jump to conclusions.

    29. Jumbo_Mills on

Dammed if they do damned if they don’t. A whole lot of “bUt ThEy wOuLd hIdE iT iF hE wAs…” from the usual pondlife yesterday. Victim mentality whataboutism is still better than the more obvious bigoted commentary you usually get.

    30. Not seeing what the problem is, the sooner the police release the facts, the sooner everyone trying to make the situation fit thier agenda can fuck off.

    31. PoloniumPaladin on

So the next time it’s an ethnic minority, they’ll do exactly the same thing right?

Of course they won’t. Two tier.

    32. daxamiteuk on

Make your mind up! Do you want details released quickly or not?

As a British Muslim, I’d rather not have to terrified if my fellow citizens are going to debate whether to lynch me or not during summer riots.

    33. Thaiaaron on

Don’t people see how ironic it is that the left wing has to spring into action every time theres an accident to ensure the public it wasn’t a muslim or a refugee, and they never have to say it wasn’t Barney the Dinosaur.

You’re just undermining your own views and proving the right wings are validated.
