Many of the people that they can flag down and get to stop won’t be the ones likely to have the faster units. Would be curious how they’ll tackle them.
But still a cool bit of kit, and it may dissuade illegal scooters from driving in certain areas at least.

Useless, with a push of a button the scooter can be limited or extend the speed limit. Stupid nanny state. Why are they available for sale even?

I’m a pro eScooter person and have no issues with these kind of checks out of context, however Gardai are constantly complaining about limited resources – Is this really a priority?
I’d rather they were at the end of my road where cars, vans and lorries are going through red lights 24/7
Seems like Roads policing Gardai do a little bit of everything for some press photos and do nothing consistently.

Does it involve clotheslining any little shits flying along on the footpath?

Waste of time. The Garda never had an original idea. Just copy what other countries do.

unpopular opinion, e-scooters shouldn’t have maximum speeds as long as cars don’t have maximum speeds

All for this. There are people out there who whizz by on an e-scooter without a care in the world. Gardaí do need some mechanism to enforce current laws and regulations.
My issue though, and has been highlighted by others, is that it isn’t usually yer man commuting home from his office job that goes a little fast causing a problem.
It’s the scrote teenagers who parade around the city with impunity, tearing down footpaths, using these e-scooters to sell drugs.
Gardaí don’t chase them as they don’t have helmets, and anyway they’re under 18 so it’s pointless really as the punishment does not merit the hassle of a chase.

Why do cars not have maximum speeds equivalent to reasonable speed limits and remove them if the are designed to go higher than those speed limits.
Its also not too crazy for all these technicallt advanced cars to have red light sensors themselves and speed sign cameras and self limit. Why is it the cheap scooter the one targeted, where the vehicle that causes most damage tis unable to ahve this technology or equivalent checks or bans.
WHile we are at it.. Who designed this speed testing equipmetn or agreed to its application, did a body of assorted scooter manufacturers get a say in how that test would work and hwo it would apply… like tests on cars.
