The EU is mad that Pornhub isn’t forcing you share your government ID along with a video clip of your face to use the site.
The EU commission was previously caught engaging in corruption on behalf of Thorn to try and pass Chat Control, so I wonder which corporations/individuals are funding their current push for age verification.

• The parent company of Pornhub said it was aware of the investigation and “fully committed” to ensuring the safety of minors online. But Stripchat was no longer designated a “very large online platform’, after an appeal by the company, meaning its activities would in future be regulated by Cyprus, where its parent company, Technius Ltd, is based, rather than Brussels.
• But the investigation into age verification tools will continue, as the new designation does not apply until September.

The best way to protect children is get them off the platform itself. There needs to be a validation mechanism to identify the child porn and direct the evidence to enforcement entities.

It’s important to note that ID verification *can* be done reasonably well and securely, but that most if not all systems in place are poorly considered.
A verification system should be third party, and should require a site or organization to ping it with a hash code/QR based on ID only, which gets verified against the government database. The government database should then send a ping to the holder of the ID, who can confirm or deny that they sought access. Once access is granted, the third party is notified, and the third party notifies the adult content provider (or alcohol sales, or cigarettes, or social media, or credit application, or whatever else requires an ID check). At no point does the government learn what company requested the check.
