Two weeks ago, a government MP introduced a Russian-style bill that would allow the so-called Sovereignty Protection Office to recommend that press agencies and NGOs that receive ‘foreign funding’ (even EU funds are considered as such) be placed on a list by the government. Once placed on the list, the organisations would be cut off from many of their funding sources, and individual donations or even subscriptions from Hungarian citizens would become much more difficult.
One example of an important funding source is that Hungarian citizens can offer 1% of their income tax to a foundation of their choice. Many choose to support the independent press and NGOs. The bill would disallow such funding for organisations that are put on the list. A new amendment would make the situation even worse, as the 1% donated from the 2024 income taxes could also be retroactively taken away.

It’s because he is scared! He is trying to make people forget his regime is losing! We must fight back and remember the people are on out side!
I’m not.
How much would you guys say this is because of Fidesz’s failings and how much Tisza’s successes?
PS. I heard Hungary’s electoral system benefits big parties the most. Would you say Tisza’s win like shown today could make it a near-constitutional majority if other parties make it too?
I will organize the biggest, most expensive party ever… on the day Putin, Trump and Orban are gone! It will be the best day of my entire life!
As a Hungarian the fact that 36% of people still support Fidesz is so fucking frustrating.
Fisedz out of power and MH under 5%. May it happen!
Tbf its more likely now that Tisza is above 50% while Fidesz is close to 30
The panic is real. Orbán’s regime has never faced this level of public disillusionment converging behind a single alternative.
What terrifies them isn’t just the numbers, it’s the mood: calm, determined, refusing to get silenced.
This isn’t foreign agitation. It’s domestic clarity. If this was orchestrated, it wouldn’t look this organic. They’re losing control not because of manipulation, but because of accountability finally catching up.
