      >During Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Indonesia, French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu signed a letter of intent with his counterpart to acquire new French equipment.

      >Full steam ahead for France in Indonesia. Accompanying Emmanuel Macron on his visit, the Minister for the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, announced that he had signed a letter of intent with his counterpart, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, to sell French military equipment to the Indonesian armed forces.

      >Potential orders include Rafale fighter jets from Dassault Aviation, light frigates and Scorpene submarines designed by Naval Group, as well as Caesar guns from KNDS.

      >The number of aircraft has not been specified, but according to La Tribune, citing corroborating sources, Jakarta may be interested in a dozen French combat aircraft (between 8 and 16).

      >Rather than its traditional Russian and American customers, Indonesia seems to favour the French offer as well as Chinese aircraft, according to specialist websites.

      >Future contracts are still under discussion, as a letter of intent is not a purchase agreement. The signing could take place on the fringes of the 14 July parade, to which Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has been invited as guest of honour.

      >Indonesia has already ordered 42 Rafales in 2022, with deliveries due to start in 2026. The country also signed a contract with Naval Group in 2024 for two Scorpene submarines (to be delivered in 2031) and has already had Caesar artillery guns since 2012.

      >

      >In addition to this French equipment, Indonesia has also ordered two A400M transport aircraft in 2021, for delivery at the end of 2025.

      >A long-standing partnership

      >The year 2025 marks 75 years of bilateral partnership between France and Indonesia, signed in 1950. A strategic partnership was signed in Jakarta in 2011, which includes ‘closer cooperation’ in the field of defence and ‘long-term strategic cooperation’.

      >Indonesia is France’s second-largest arms customer in Southeast Asia (after India), accounting for 15% of the country’s arms imports, behind the United States (33%), according to SIPRI data.

It’s not fully confirmed but well it is going in a good way.

Otherwise there were lot of fake news spreaded as far as i understand that Indonesia would go for 42 j10c + going back to su35 (which makes no sense) but it doesn’t looks like this will happen and relation with China seems complicated for Indonesia anyway.

And to do this, the last virgin forest is being cleared for eucalyptus; the money for armament, as necessary as it is, would be 1000 times more necessary for the environment and climate
