There is something funny about how the correction is sort of a point in Israel’s favour. Crowe gets up, says that Israel is worse than the Brits and we all go ‘well actually…’

This is the intelligence level that our legislators are at.

These are the people tasked to solve the housing catastrophe that they created.

Crowe added: “I, too, studied history in college.

The headlines really took his comment out of context.

“What is happening is not a war anymore; it is ethnic cleansing, genocide and, more recently, the weaponising of food,” said Crowe.

He then added: “The British army was a bad actor on this island for many centuries but even in the worst of days, when its cities were being bombed by the terror organisations of the IRA, it never retaliated by bombing and shooting the civilian population of Ireland.”

To me saying that they weren’t “bombing and shooting the civilian population” is not the same as saying they never shot civilians – the term “civilian population” implies the whole population. He was saying they didn’t engage in ethnic cleansing by carpet bombing and mass murdering the entire population in the way Israel is today.

Which he clarified in his apology, but I thought it was pretty clear when I first read it. That doesn’t make for clickbait headlines and bad faith performative outrage from the opposition though.
