I’m more worried about the crime of fare dodging than the crime of “filming in a TfL building”

    2. Redsimmy on

I’m confused. Does Jenrick think Khan should personally be at the barriers of every station checking tickets?

    3. But rules (morals, taxes etc) are for other people, not Tory politicians and Tory voters.

    4. PurahsHero on

As much as Jenrick is a duplictious twat and really acts like Alan Partridge here, he has a point.

Low level, petty crime is pretty much unchecked now. Fare dodging is one thing. Then there is graffiti, broken windows, stealing things from shops. While I am sure that some are doing things like stealing as they have no other choice, and they are very vulnerable, a substantial proportion are doing it because there is simply no challenge to them.

Yes, we have to do prevention and the social programmes that deliver it. But at the same time, punishment and people being caught in the act is also needed. Otherwise, people start to run amok.

    5. After-Dentist-2480 on

      Rules don’t apply to Jenrick.

      Didn’t he point that out?

    6. Wasphate on

I love how ‘TFL rules’ are presented as something other than ‘what some idiot in a high vis expects me to care about.’

    7. ClacksInTheSky on

Robert Jenrick has the same sort of face as Richard Tice. Both of them make me really angry on sight.

    8. Lol this sort of weirdo behaviour by the media is why reform is going to win. No one cares he filmed somewhere, people care about others cheating.

    9. After-Temperature585 on

Maybe security would do more if they were paid better?

Maybe petty crime would be punished if there was money in the pot?

Maybe petty crime would go down if there was more money generally and people had incentives to earn, learn and work

Anyway Robert, about that planning permission

    10. Euphoric-Brother-669 on

And that is the main thing here. Jenrick is wrong to highlight this. It’s not about
-they are doing nothing about it
      -People fare dodge with impunity
      -TfL can’t control these fools
      -Khan is ineffective as Mayor

No no. WE cannot allow anyone to expose such practices that is the problem.

Tells you all you need to know

Didn’t he break lockdown rules by fleeing to his country home?

Draw a little postage stamp moustache on Honest Bob and he ain’t half the spitting image of a famous world leader from the 1930’s like a Little Bobby Shitler

    13. Wrong-Half-6628 on

Having worked for TfL, fare dodgers are an **enormous** black hole in TfL’s finances.

Think what you want about Robert Jenrick, but this is a very serious issue, and is preventing funding for growth projects within the network.

TfL is not a for profit business. These people are not stealing from shareholders.

Everytime someone boards the tube for free, they are directly stealing from the companies capacity to fund new lines, salaries, cleaning, etc.

    14. TapPositive6857 on

I am all for stopping fare dodging. However the irony is to save £130 mil each year, we let rich Scott free from paying fair tax of billions of pounds. Misplaced priorities.

Will channel 4 start a show of rich dogging fair tax with offshore accounts 🤔

    15. FreakyGhostTown on

Do I dislike Jenrick and the sorry state him and his party left the country in over the last 15 years.?Absolutely.

Is he right in this instance that fare dodging is an issue that either nobody cares about or people make excuses for? Absolutely

This attitude of “Well they’re not paid enough to care” when it’s literally their job or “Why should we care” when it’s feeding this culture of continual petty crime is toxic

    16. Scooby359 on

He’s not MP for London, so why’s he faffing around worrying about their transport services? Is he going to visit other parts of the country and flag transport issues the rest of us have, or is he just another London-centric politician?

    17. Weird-Statistician on

Look, I’m not a fan of Jenrick but he’s spot on here. Sane with blatent shoplifting. Undermines society and annoys the 90% of people who are honest and hard working in this country. Making it about some stupid filming law is deflecting from the problem. There are thousands of videos on YouTube filmed on TFL property.

    18. Heavy_Cupcake_6246 on

Amount of fare dodging, shoplifting and other petty crime is pretty much normalised in this country.

We should be dealing with petty crimes like that and also ensuring people pay their taxes, I’m pretty sure we can deal with both if we put the effort in.

    19. Agreeable_Falcon1044 on

Performative art and quite disgusting opportunism. If you are copying rudi guliani then good luck

    20. plough_the_sea on

What does “TfL rules” mean in this context?

It’s not in the bylaws that you can’t film, and it’s not in the conditions of carriage…

    21. Now don’t get me wrong, this guy is an utter and total twat. He is incompetent and failed miserably at all the positions he had as part of the previous government. He has as much charisma as a wet mouldy old towel and should stay away from politics.

He does raise a valid point though 🤷

    22. Longjumping_Stand889 on

As ever the self appointed guardians of left thought manage to focus on an irrelevant detail.

    23. ethos_required on

Jenrick is 100% in the right. This is a scandal and TfL can fuck off imo.
