I would gladly pay it if it helps to get the EU market more competitive in regards to online services, social networks, cloud computing and so on.

Good, they definitely need to be taxed. No loopholes like they do in their home base.

Could it be connected to Trump’s tariffs? Big Tech oligarchs are among his main supporters, so this increases pressure on Washington

Hope it’s not like the German packaging tax where they make every seller in the world who has just one buyer from Germany register to a German company to ‘dispose of their packaging’ for at least 39 Euros. That one is an absolute scam that targets poor online sellers in developing countries.
Come to think of it, Trump could learn a few things from the Germans on restricting trade.

They will immediately pass the tax to advertisers, ie European companies. This only makes sense if the tax is used to fund EU-made and operated competition

Could be good to counter tax evasion but I hope it will not impact small online platforms. This tax could hit the US companies but if applied indiscriminately it could kill EU startups or any struggling companies. They will gladly pay the 10% tax if they can influence the law and make sure any competition cannot emerge from Europe.

Socialism is back.
Why not on American oil?
Oh, right
This needs to be EU-wide tax, not just Germany.
