Not at all surprised if I’m honest, shocked the place is still in business. If you’re impacted just use hotstock and the autobuy feature, you’ll likely have one from a more reputable place in no time.

Bet they will be able to reinstate the orders with a 10% premium or some stupid extra game bundle with no issue

Game hasn’t been Game for a long time now.
For a brief second they were a place to get decent priced action figures, before just falling completely into vaguely nerdy, overpriced trinkets.
It was the only place when taking preorders that didn’t sell out within 30 seconds, and was up for about a day taking orders. Should have been a huge red flag to everyone.

GAME is a zombie company. Barely alive, propped up by Frasers Group and slowly fading.

I didn’t even know GAME still operated. Gamestation was the goat anyway.

Game are shocking and since Ashley took over, they’re basically the Evri of shops. I had a different pre-order cancelled by them after they took money, refunded it then asked me to reorder saying it got stuck in the system, which makes no sense.

The local one closed recently, there’s now nowhere in the nearby shopping center to buy a physical game other than 2nd had ones from CEX.

Game aren’t even that great nowadays. No more pre owned games & they have more tat than games nowadays. Not to mention that they are just in a forgotten part of sports direct nowadays. With game gone, it pretty much just leaves CEX as the only games store chain left on the british high street

GAME barely even sell games anymore. But cancelling orders of a sold out console they’d had for months one week before launch is just pure anti-consumer. If they were actually a good company, they could have weathered the storm of digital games and Amazon. Plenty of UK gamers still buy physical games, we’re actually a pretty reluctant market on this. Many new PS5 games are still above 50% physical in the UK. But GAME have shit customer service and a shit offering of games. And stuff like this too.

Surprised to hear that GAME was ever even considering stocking an actual game console. That would take up valuable shelf space for Ali express plastic video game adjacent landfill

It’s actually quite sad to see what GAME has become; a once huge pillar of the British highstreet, relegated to selling Funko pops and second hand iPhones in a tiny corner of a few Sports Direct stores. Although I always did prefer Gamestation, it had much less of a corporate feel and they always held a lot of free events and midnight launches etc. It was far more upsetting to see them go.
Hopefully this is the final nail in the coffin tbh.

Game is pretty much done at this point, shame as many years ago I used to love going in and checking out latest titles and did a couple of midnight releases there which were fun, but their prices over the last 10 or so years are ridiculous and when they used to do trade ins they would royally screw you, (save for that brief period when they would price match cex on trades). Smyth’s now is the only viable option for boxed games near me, wonder how long they will keep it going.

Game have continually let people down on preorders for a while now. I feel sorry for anyone who’s had theirs cancelled. I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole now though, they’ve been in managed decline for a good few years.

I went right off GAME by how they acted when I tried to order a PS Portal.
They had my pre-order, had taken my money yet the release date came and went. After a few months I cancelled the order and took my chances somewhere else.
I remember when GAME first opened. They had a good reputation. It looks like all the good staff jumped ship years ago.

Ordered mine through Nintendo UK. Weirdly they still haven’t taken payment for accessories but console was charged last weekend

Did a pre-order with them years ago, however the game happened to be released on Black Friday. I was working and went in that evening to pick up my order, only to be told it had been given away because the shop had not received enough copies. I went to complain on Facebook and this was happening across the country. Not only did I not get the game (with the special pre-order gifts) but I did not get my deposit back either. I will never pre-order with them again after that.

I think the problem with the high street are the property/ investment owners who rent the high street shops out are where the blame begins. They ask far too much and instead should accept a percentage of sales after expenses of any given business.
Next up businesses should have enough of a profit margin to match online prices. If Game sells a game for a tenner more than an online retailer they should be able to match it. Simple as that.
Those two easily explained issues could save the high street.

Since everyone is talking about Game, Gamestation, and Electronic Boutique. My mind was recently blown when I read the [Wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamestation?searchToken=8obcgzuviynr58dmmxqyjab04) for Gamestation and learned that it used to be owned by Blockbuster from 2002-2007. After that it was sold to Game.
Similarly, I didn’t realise Electronic Boutique bought Game. I thought it was the other way around. They just decided to stick with the Game branding and bought up other retailers in other parts of the world (France, Spain, Australia). What I also didn’t realise is that Electronic Boutique is “[EB Games](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EB_Games)”, which I often see reference by the North Americans on Reddit. In 2005 EB Games was bought out by Game Stop, but they kept name going in Canada until 2017. However someone bought the rights this year and is brining it back – I wish someone would do the same in the UK with either EB or GS.
Here’s Games [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_(retailer)) page for anyone that wants to check out the history. Interesting that it’s all one big web of companies in the end.

Game was fine when it was owned by Electronics Boutique. What has ruined Game is the VC ownership. They don’t care about gamers, they care about getting every single penny of profit they can from the brand name – and nothing else!
