the lack of self awareness is either egregious or disingenuous at best

They use that word a lot, but me thinks they don’t know what it means.

The text “[The Need for Civilizational Allies in Europe](https://statedept.substack.com/p/the-need-for-civilizational-allies-in-europe)” released by the Departement of State a few days ago is quite clear: they want to destroy the EU under the pretext of defending their religion and their warped notion of free speech and democracy.

No wonder they are paroting the talking points of the Heritage Fundation and support the russian assets of Fidesz, the AfD and the RN.

    4. CaptchaSolvingRobot on

They are projecting, same tactics that Russia uses, accusing other countries of what they are then selves guilty of.

Descartes: Dubito, ergo cogito. Cogito, ergo sum.
Trump: Dubito. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Can we give less air to the bullshit coming from the US right now?

hypocracy level similar to Russia claiming to free Ukraine from nazis.

The US uses intentionally a strategy of provocation in order to cut ties to democratic countries, especially in Europe. That’s at least how it seems to me.

Europe, you need to have democracy instilled in you at the point of a gun. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION!

They are cynically perverting the word “democracy” into a dog whistle for their like-minded accomplices, present or potential. It’s disgusting.

A man who wants to be a King questions other countries democracies. You couldn’t make it up.

      Honestly, a bit scary.

We must not let go of our liberal democracy. The autocratic forces in the US fear it for the same reason Putin and others do. They fear their citizens will grow jealous.

I was going to say “are they that stupid?!”, but then realised that this is all a bit Goebbelsian…

It would be great to either not post paywalled content or use a non paywall link.

      It’s called deflecting.
It’s a do not look at me, look at them move.

They question democracy of France and Germany, but somehow ok with things happening in Hungary. Trumps team is a bunch of russian asset

I think it’s very obvious, EU is a powerhouse that US and Russia are not happy about. That’s way both try to kill it with influence. This also shows that having us in NATO defeats the purpose at the moment, with current admin.

    18. The US is trying to go with that “freedom of speech” so the far far nazi rightwingers like Trump and Musk can just lie.

Literally, to spread disinformation. All the while they are burning and banning books there.

      Like excuse me? What?

    19. TheLightDances on

Classic DARVO and projection. They always accuse others of what they are themselves doing, so that they distract from their own actions, muddle the discussion, and can later try to play the “both sides are doing it/both sides bad” card.

I question a part of europes commitment to democracy. The parts Trump likes, Orban, PIS in Poland, AFD and so on.

USA is at 84 at the Freedom Index, lower than Argentina. This is before Trump started killing off civil rights.

    22. Illustrious_Peach494 on

ICE acts like fucking Gestapo, visitors and residents in US are having their social media policed, their administration is actively destroying the separation of powers and this mfer preaches us about “democracy” and “shared heritage”.

    23. StephaneiAarhus on

Honestly, with their disrespect for trade unions (which are as important to democracy as political parties are) and their violent police, I was doubting of America’s commitment to democracy long before Trmp’s arrival.

    24. lawrotzr on

Luckily the EU has a solid hard power strategy of its own, implementing all recommendations from the more than excellent Draghi report, leading to a more independent, integrated, and competitive economy that is able to build a tech industry of its own.

      ……… right?

    25. RasJudah1892 on

Trump state department questions Europe’s commitment to white supremacy. Fixed the line 4 ya.

    26. MalmerDK on

The US is still using first past the post.

That’s toddler’s democracy. You’ve barely got a grasp on your ABC.
