    1. then why bother with stupid shit like that. Become a nail technician and do nails from home. Make bank!

In 2002, a burger van was robbed after the Stereophonics at Slane, the robbers got off with €100,000. A lot of moola, bearing in mind that was 23 years ago.

So I think those featured in the article are crying the poor mouth a little. Especially as people in 2025 are generally a lot more hedonistic and un-phased by paying €25 for a generic Kepak burger passed off as Artisan Fare.

Like fuck they are “breaking even.” Was at a League of Ireland match recently and the food truck there was charging €6 for a mini tray of curry chips. I bought them because I was after drink and they weren’t exactly gourmet chips or curry. They had 5 people in the truck racing around before the match and even busier again at half time.

Japanese culture days in Farmleigh Gardens (Dublin) a few weeks back. Mushashi take away truck was selling noodle dishes for €9 a pop, in pots slightly bigger than a coffee cup and barely any meat in it. The queue was swirling around the truck.

I was about to make a scene when I got my order but my wife stopped me from it.

      Never again!

What’s this vibe at the moment where businesses are in the news moaning about profits?

We’re _all_ broke. I don’t want artisanal festival pizzas and €7 pints. The broadband has gone up again. Fuck off.

      I remember being at Knockanstockan

Hanging and starving one morning but not wanting to splash out on one of the many “gourmet” food trucks

Then 3 lads turned up in a van with a loads of bacon, bread, butter, sausages and a couple of wee camping stoves

They charged like 2 quid for a sandwich and a drink and it was exactly what I needed, I bought 3 and ate like a king

I doubt they had a license or whatever they needed but even just charging a couple of euro was clearly profitable enough that they took the morning to do it

I’m just back from the Rory Gallagher festival today and the trucks there were taking the absolute piss. Fuck them, “we have overheads”, aye so does everyone else

Show me receipts or I don’t believe it. Work is hard, they don’t do that for an idea. If there’s no money in that they would be doing something else.

Times are hard. Some of them are using the same oil they had in Lisdoonvarna .

If it’s done right you can definitely make decent cash. Toasted sandwiches were a money printer, and cost feck all. Maybe things have got fancier these days.

Nonsense. Same goes for weekend markets. They are making serious coin.

Christmas market Dublin Castle ‘handcrafted gourmet’ fkn hot dogs €11!!! You got more or less a shop bought frankfurter in a fancy brioche bun

If they’re only breaking even they’re poor business people.

If you account make 1000 nice burgers on the cheap and turn a profit, self employment isn’t for you.

Close-ish friend made north of 10k at EP last year. Opened for 18 hours across 3 days, 2 staff members.

We play a game of looking at the menus to see which one is the biggest ripoff when we are at festivals or the likes of Farmleigh market now. Its actually shocking how much they charge for the food now. Total ripoff.

MCD et al have done a great job convincing people that it’s small businesses and musicians who have made festivals expensive. Meanwhile behind the scenes they will do just about anything to skim the most meagre of profits off people. Sure festivals now force vendors to use their card machines and have banned cash so they can skim even more off them.

First thought what’s the charge to park your van for a days business

Was down at the biker fest in Killarney yesterday and one of the stalls was charging 20 euro for a burger and chips. Madness.

    17. Great excuse to kick prices up by 10-15% just like everywhere else

    18. KaleidoscopeLeft5511 on

Based on the comments here, if this is on fact nonsense, and these festival food trucks are making so much pure profit, it makes me wonder why everyone, including the posters in this thread, aren’t doing it themselves

    19. Davidoff1983 on

It’s very Irish that the reaction here is fuck these small busnisess they charge too much rather than fuck the government for making it so expensive to run a basic chip van business they have to overcharge and STILL are barely breaking even.
