We all know that we’re on a collision course for catastropic climate change.
We all know that catastrophic climate change is locked in.
We have no fucking agency. We voted out the Greens because “they compromised with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael” and voted in *checks notes* Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
We also can’t do it by wind and solar alone. Battery technology can’t store enough power to continue to supply the grid at the same level when the wind stops. Since we don’t have nuclear power or an the geography to increase hydro that we need to burn fossil fuels.
The *least bad* fossil fuel is natural gas. It isn’t ideal but it’s cleaner than coal. Unfortunately we lack sufficient supply from pipelines and domestic harvesting to meet this need.
Liquified natural gas would meet this need and reduce our emissions by reducing the reliance on coal. However we were unable to get planning approved for a LNG terminal.
An interconnect with France would help but it isn’t a cure all. Their fleet of nuclear plants are near end of life and in need of refurbishment so will begin to cycle offline soon.
Drill baby drill.
We need to invest in nuclear and then set off a nuclear winter. It’s the only way to be sure
Actionz instead of words. All this posturing is meaningless if it cannot be put onto action.
Hydrogen for the win, and big batteries. But, I’m no scientist, but that said, some trials for gigs using hydrogen to power festivals etc.

The government of Ireland, since at least the 1970s, has had an utter disregard, of not genuine destestment, for our ecology.
