    1. I wonder what kind of verification is good enough. I think it’s good to try and prevent very young children from accessing sexually explicit content, gore etc. But I wouldn’t want there to be a database somewhere with peoples names and what kind of sites they visit.

To be honest, I don’t understand the protest in principle. If it were planned that you could no longer access the pages anonymously, I would be right behind it. But now a data-saving method has been chosen that leaves the user completely anonymous, saves nothing and only sends a yes/no from the e-ID regarding the age limit. These procedures are nothing new in many EU countries and are practised there on an open-source basis.

FWIW, France has actually had this law in place for 5 years already but they only recently expanded it to cover all EU-based platforms, and seeing how Aylo is the parent company of the top most frequented porn sites, I suppose it hadn’t yet affected most French residents until just now…

My suggestion is if you’re residing in France, now is a good time to turn that VPN on. I personally use Proton, but Mullvad is good as well. Stay safe out there.

Is this the same Peter Ornhub who’s been aggressively pushing stepsister content up in the algorithm just because he likes it?

And you thought u saw a real french protest… Brace yourself

“The owner of Pornhub, RedTube and YouTube” – Say what??!?

    7. Happy_Feet333 on

Why a country that has no problem airing the entire series of Emmanuelle movies on primetime television…

…would stoop to requiring age ID for porn is beyond me.

      Seriously, WTF?

    8. To anyone saying “this isn’t about anonymity”: This is a slippery slope.

Don’t give governments even an inch when it comes to data privacy. They WILL further escalate things, all under the guise of just-sounding causes. We’re still fending off the so-called “chat control law” which tries to give governments full access to chat logs of civilians’ smartphones and emails.

If this instance of age verification is not yet a problem, the next step will be. And that step will come.

The Fr*nch are horny and kinky. This isn’t going to last long or end well.

I’ve changed opinion on this over the years but I am now very much in favour of laws that make pornography more difficult to access, especially for children.

I’m not in favour of identifiable information being shared but do think age verification is essential.

    11. BalticSprattus on

Boohoo. They’re protesting that minors won’t be able to easily access their content. Think about it.

    12. RadicalCandle on

The Fr*nch have banned most public smoking and have given up online porn.

The End Times are truly upon us.

    13. Gonna be hilarious when all the gooners come out on the street gillet Jaune style

    14. QueenAlucia on

Can’t wait for the data breach exposing people’s real IDs linked to what they browsed on these websites.

    15. QueenAlucia on

I find it very funny that they are implementing this law supposedly to “protect the children” yet this is just going to push the content on decentralised platforms, so with even less moderation and scrutiny, thus potentially allowing more disturbing content to thrive more.

    16. ZielonaKrowa on

I wonder if it was lobbied by sites like only fans to push out the free competition and move more users to paid alternatives.

    17. EUIVAlexander on

Oh no, and that is the only pornsite on the internet 🙁

    18. Archelaus_Euryalos on

When legal porn is illegal only illegal porn will be available… I think this stuff is deliberate, making the problem worse allows them to clamp down harder and the same system that blocks porn can block anything, once mass implementation has already happened, it’ll be too late to go back.

France net’s already heavily censored, so at this point those who don’t use VPNs to escape the five eyes, and overall censorship kinda deserve it. Just like Macron electors.

    20. Bobosauruss on

Can’t you just bypass this by using AI generated fake IDs?

Holy shit YouTube is owned by the same company as Pornhub? TIL

Tragic news from France. I am with you in these difficult moments.

It’s funny how PATRIOT Act bullshit is reaching Europe. Like, you don’t need to turn internet into a Gestapo sandbox to protect from Russian, Chinese and American threats.

I don’t fucking want Tovarisch Pierre to see what people jerk off to.

Nonetheless, in Russia for comparison this happened like 6 years ago, you login with VK… like what the fuck.

    24. unrealnarwhale on

Texas passed extremely similar legislation to this earlier, and pornhub did the same thing, it’s now their playbook. Invest in VPNs if you have not yet.

    25. Cassin1306 on

Just tested by curiosity. Added the first free VPN from Firefox extensions. Logged in another country. Works.

      Mmmm’kay.

    26. Careless-Credit-1463 on

Yet another case of idiots coming up with a delusional law that simply can’t be implemented. Of course the responsibility of doing impossible is for someone else – not the regulator. What’s next they will try to regulate? Hardness of actor’s erection or the pace of “action”?

    28. Is Pronhub involved financially with few VON providers? Probably
