I don’t know if it’s inevitable, but I’m certainly okay with the prospect.

    2. Rude_Egg_6204 on

The ussr went on for decades with an economy that only built tanks basically.

    3. jackdog20 on

I think it’s inevitable just a matter of time. People itching to lob as many big ones on them as fast as they can.

    4. HauntingArugula3777 on

I am sure its collapsing all the time, its hard to go full failed state.

    5. I doubt it and if it does. It would likely be bloody and potentially very dangerous for the world. Think about it.

    6. Incendium_Satus on

Inevitable or just the same cycle as always? It’ll be just another despot.

    7. SumDumbGaijin on

The russian Federation, as we know it, won’t exist in less than three years.

    8. WinterDustDevil on

Whan the USSR collapsed it took everyone by surprise. People that analyzed it for a living didn’t see it. The same will happen this time. It’ll be balls to the wall militarily until they can’t and then then the infighting in Moscow is going to be epic. IMHO

    9. greenteawithsugar on

No, this will not happen. The West is too afraid of it. And the USA will always come with help and won’t allow the collapse of this pseudo-empire, as it has always been before.

    10. Straight_Document_89 on

We shouldn’t have tried to prop them up in the 90s. I know why we did it, but yeah.

    11. DataGeek101 on

I’m thinking it’s inevitable. The population of their young men has effectively been reduced, people who are able will flee when it’s possible, and there is no good way out of this disastrous war for ruZZia.
Mark my words, it’s going down.

    12. vanalden on

      Yes, it’s inevitable.

The best run empires in history have all collapsed or contracted deeply, with recent examples being the British, the French and soon the American. A badly run empire will not last longer.

    13. LiquidPuzzle on

Whether it collapses or doesn’t, you can’t count on it.

    14. Electronic_Impact on

it’s a ticking time bomb but it has been that way for a looooooooooong time.

    15. I don’t believe we can truly have peace in our time without its dissolution.

Agent 45/47 and his high advisor will mask off and rally support for Russia

When Putin dies, I wonder if it will similar to Stalin. Like vultures picking at the bones and whoever come out on top. The drunk raving lunatic Medvedev? Horse face Lavrov? A stable leader or a psychotic madman?

    18. ForsakenMongoose336 on

The Russian population seems to believe it is a badge of honor to remain poor so the oligarchs can thrive. So collapse is not imminent.

    19. Vast-Carob9112 on

How very interesting. I just looked at the stats for this post. 72% USA, 20% Canada, and 8% Australia. Are the responses from Ukranian ex-pats?

    20. logosobscura on

If the Siloviki and local governors feel Putin cannot guarantee their safety so they can continue to exist as they do, they will find someone else to offer fealty to, even if that is an ‘ally’, especially in the Far East.

The tough guy bullshit is all born from wanting to look strong to China, who wants Siberia- either officially, or via BRI and passive ownership, they want the oil (and they want the land Russia stole back). Demographically, Putin has made mistake after mistake in the last decade, and now it looks like one leg of the triad got caved in. The threats ring a lot more hollow, the sweat a bit more noticeable.

    21. Advanced-Injury-7186 on

That’s a big no from me. Russia lacks the ethnic divides that are a feature of countries that break up.

    22. GeorgeWhite1953 on

The collapse of the current regime, and the separation of the client countries on the borders, will clear the way for Russia to start once again to climb to a level where it can look at invading its’ neighbours. Historically it seems to be a never ending cycle.

    23. SteadfastEnd on

No, I don’t think it will. As much as I’d love to see it, I think it’s too optimistic.

And it might not necessarily even be a good thing. Bear in mind that if Russia collapses, we could see thousands of nukes suddenly loosely guarded or not even guarded at all. Would be a Sum of All Fears type of nightmare scenario.

    24. CanadianK0zak on

as much as I’d like for that to be the case, I’m afraid we are fooling ourselves when we think it’s inevitable, I would rate it as marginally possible, but extremely unlikely at this point

    25. drdailey on

Sadly I hate to see this for the populations of both countries. Russians are going to be hit hard by this. It is like a recurrent nightmare for them. Russia is for sure going to fail and likely will enter a very brutal civil war… if china doesn’t just over run them. The people are far too docile.

    26. Acadian-Finn on

Yes. Russia is in terminal demographic decline regardless of how the war in Ukraine ends. They will cease to exist within a generation or two unless they have a massive baby boom. The same is true of China which has also passed the point of no return.

    27. leonnabutski on

It’s a house of cards. When it goes, it will go quickly and chaotically.
