Germany and Europe few years ago thought they could somewhat pacify and align Russia with the west by tying the economies together.
Europe got so much fossil fuels from Russia, that you’d have to be crazy to do something to disrupt that, like a war…
The problem with that “logical” thinking, is that it assumes, Russia’s values in regards for economy and stability somewhat align with west. That was obviously wrong.

What’s not to like – we could be held hostage by both America AND Russia!

Well why doesn’t US buy Russian gas if they are so keen to appease them?
Most of Europe has learned that to rely on Russian gas leaves them open to economic black mail from Russia.
Those European countries that have not began exiting from Russian Gas supplies, will be under the Russian yoke. Indeed, they already are.
Europe need to stay the course with replacing fossil fuel gas with alternatives. Those alternatives are a mixture of nuclear, renewables and probably hydrogen as well.
In the decades ahead, in a much more volotile geo political world, brought about by catastrophic leadership in many of the world’s main economies, energy independence is going to be absolutely critical for any country which wishes to retain its own independence. The only way to ensure energy independence is to develop home based alternatives to fossil fuels.

It’s funny how MAGA operates.
On the one hand grandiose promises of developing US trade and especially revitalizing fossil fuels industries in the US (“drill baby drill” or “beautiful clean coal” “Europe should buy energy” etc).
On the other: push for low oil prices (which tbf for Europe is great thing) that is already hurting US oil industry and now this.
Primary winners of Europe switching from russia when it comes to natural gas is the US. Because Europe increased import of LNG. And who is primary seller? US. Return of NS would hurt first and foremost US economy.

This article completely ignores that France and Belgium are currently holding up an EU proposal to stop buying Russian gas. Because vilifying a crackpot proposal from an American, albeit one that would be completely reliant on German participation, gets more clicks from gullible people.

So the US spent years and years trying to pursuade the EU to not build that pipeline in order to not give Russia more leverage and now it wants them to do the complete opposite? They can fuck off.

Well, fortunately enough Europe is not in the U.S. and can decide for itself with whom to do business, where and how…in euro.

Both involved nations have basically the same agenda in this. They both would like to control Germany via energy usage, while Germany has very much learned it’s lesson in this. The USA has to come to terms with, that Germany, maybe slowly but surely, will continue to emancipate from the USA. So the mere thought of it would change anything if the US is owner of something, that we are not willing to take from a single source any longer, is really entertaining. Americans are really bad at reading the room.

Can’t imagine being this oblivious
EU is in the process of getting rid of Russian energy import.
An American investor wanting to buy a pipeline transporting energy from Russia is plain economic stupidity.
