You can’t trust a bloke in a Transit, after all. In all seriousness, it’s great to see the MOD are taking the hard fought lessons of the Ukraine war and putting them into practice.

No.
Some people in Britain and possibly outside of Britain want to.

Fairly sure we’ve already supplied this set up to Ukraine

White Van men have always been dangerous on the roads. Now they are going to have armed drones at their bidding?
Animala144 on
I always wanted a little drone to keep in the car, just launch it out the window when stuck in gridlock on the motorway to see wtf is going on, but I’m pretty sure that’s illegal.

They’re using the IRA’s playbook of putting home made mortars in the back of tranny vans

The view of a transit filling my rearview will certainly hit differently now…

White van man will unlock new levels of dangerous driving

This is the most British way of adapting to modern warfare, that I’ve seen 😂

Should be easy enough. I have launched a drone from my car a few times.

Come on Jez, if you get a van with drones we could be men with Ven with Dren

Mom it’s my turn to launch drones from cargo vehicles now

My advice to the MoD is train all of your Soldiers on how to use an OBD2 scanner and have one ready to go in the glovebox. Sending them into war they need to be able to clear all the Check Engine Lights so the fucker starts.

Not so quick to light a fag in the van now, are you Barry?

Beware of white van man, he may launch a drone attack on you now instead of just reckless driving and road rage

Not for war or anything, it’s just really, really cool and like the ATeam or something.

As someone living in essex, I’m obliged to say we should buy a shit load of toyota hi lux’s and make a load of technicals to go with these white van full of drones!

Great stuff. I presume this is to be sent to Ukraine? Nevertheless good to see the MoD open to rapid development and deployment

We use transits at work.
Modern transits are absolutely lemons. Wet belt fails repeatedly, sensors move a mill and the whole things halts, the clutch easily drops. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

This doesn’t seem like a particularly challenging one?
Compressed air will get you the force you need for a reasonable mass budget and whilst you couldn’t launch at that rate from a compressor and a cold start, you could absolutely accumulate en-route, so it’s just a question of having enough storage capacity?
There must be something I’m missing.

Interesting, back when the IRA were launching shit from transit vans Britain was against it, but suddenly it’s ok.

If the Ukraine war has taught us anything is that modern wars are about speed and versatility over bulk and defence. The bigger and slower you are the quicker you’re getting droned.
Yes you’ve made a truck that traverses the worst muddiest terrain and can just about take an RPG but unless it’s doing it at 60mph it’s going to take half an hour exposed in a field.
Unless it’s a piece of frontline armour, you’ll be better off with something cheap, fast and semi disposable. Vans are perfect
