      Oh no, Oscar and Jacinta have to go to school with the peasants, how will they cope??

      Brilliant. 11,000 extra kids in state schools when they were previously not costing the taxpayer anything. Particularly as their parents were still paying tax to support everyone else’s kids. Somebody please explain how this is a good policy.

      And over all pupils numbers fell 70000 last year according to the ONS.

      So 6.5% of all pupils went to private school before the VAT change and now it’s 6.4%. Months of hysteria by wealthy parents claiming ‘politics of envy’ and state education would be ‘overwhelmed’. Perhaps they’ve turned to shopping at Waitrose instead of M&S so Tarquin doesn’t have to mix with the great unwashed.

      Fine. Totally fine.

      Did they make exemptions for schools with special needs and such? Terrible if not.

      I’m not rich and neither is my close family but my uncle and his family just moved to Dubai to save money on tax and private school. Different world.

      Why do people forget, when cheering this on, that a lot of disabled kids attend private specialist schools because mainstream schools failed them? Their parents often have to pay out of pocket just to give their children the best start in life. Now, some of those children are being forced back into mainstream education. And let’s be honest — a lot of people don’t like that. Don’t disabled pupils ‘distract’ non-disabled students, after all? 🙄

      No net benefit. A real hateful policy. Education should be valued. And thenonly people this hurts are any middle class folks who are already getting hammered.

      The timing as well was especially hateful.
