Good, because they have had some significant missteps.

It’s good that he said this. I know individual gardai (and the GRA) are very unhappy about Harris, but he is a man of integrity and he has taken on vested interests in a force that had a lot of significant issues, particularly as was shown by the way they treated good, honest guards like Maurice McCabe. It’s refreshing to see him take an honest attitude towards what was in hindsight a very significant failing by the guards in Cork.
Maybe Harris will ultimately be seen as to have went too far in the application of disciplinary rules, especially when we see skangers *without helmets* racing around our cities on motorbikes in front of garda cars and guards afraid to chase them lest the fall off and hurt themselves (poor craturs), or even worse: a garda in the absurd position of getting charged with a crime for pursuing some of the worst scumbag burglars in the country who ultimately got themselves killed when **they chose** to drive down the N7 the wrong way, endangering a lot of innocent people as they did so, but that’s not entirely down to Harris. The GSOC and the DPP are responsible for much of that, as was Helen McEntee.

I was in the “Gards did a good job in arresting Satchwell” camp at the time he was arrested
But having seen what came out in the trial I’m in the “second group of gards did a good job, first group were asleep on the job” camp now

Found it kind of strange that a previous post about this case was filled with people defending the guards in the comments.

They’re gonna fuck up the Michael Gaine case next.

That’s how things generally improve, by learning from mistakes.
