A welcome initiative, but who will address the fact that many parents use screentime as a substitute for parental attention?
Teens are addicted to their phones, but maybe it correlates to the fact that they were conditioned to it when their parents turned on youtube kids videos for them as early as age 3, instead of interacting with them.
Which can be because the parents are overworked and have little free time to spend with their families due to the shrinking living standards of low and middle income families.
Which opens an ever bigger can of worms.

It makes sense and is an easy cause to cheer for until you think about the implementation. From the article:
>They demand “an EU-wide application that supports parental control mechanisms, allows for proper age verification and limits the use of certain applications by minors”.
I guess “Proper age verification” means handing over your ID to a centralized database to look at porn and other adult content (if you don’t use VPNs)?

Very good. They should ban Reddit for everybody too

They should do a wide ban for TiKTok and all of Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. This will solve all the problems with social media and children.
