Since the Roman Catholic Church is international, it follows that its leader will argue for globalism over nationalism. Globalism benefits the Church’s mission better than nationalist tendencies by countries.
The fact that these nationalist political movements have an exclusionary mindset is a sign of a monist ideology. This type of ideology is dangerous. Whether this is linked or leaning towards Communism or Fascism, they all believe their truth is the only truth possible. In pursuit of their truth, they exclude compromise, which usually leads to oppression and violence. If these movements cannot accept that everone is different, and more importantly if they refuse to make compromises, they should be rejected from all political participation.

It was always weird to me how often nationalists tie themselves to Catholicism (or other branches of Christianity in non Catholic countries) when Catholicism and Christianity as a whole are really heavy on universalism and going beyond nations.
