>When the project was mostly completed in November 2023, an additional €142,295 was added to the cost to carry out additional works, including fixing a leak.
So almost a quarter of the cost was extras that weren’t included in the original project?
Yeah that’s going to put you over budget.
What a non story.

€600,000 for 250 sq. m gives your €2,400 per sq. m
I believe that’s about the average cost per sq. m for a house. I know a house isn’t a plaza and a plaza not a house but I could imagine them being in similar ball parks. Homes have more wiring but plaza uses heavy stone. Seems a non-story

I’d say we should all just do nothing ever again just in case someone doesn’t like the cost. To be safe, like.

Another stupid non-story about public environment works “costing too much” being spoonfed to readers who don’t know what anything costs.
This isn’t 20 square meters of tarmac and a wood picket fence, the granite paving slabs alone are 4 figures each.

Your Income -> The State (By force) -> someone else’s pocket -> it’s a scam.

The 30% contingency seemed a bit wild and substantially above the norm but with Covid and everything else at the time, it was clearly warranted.
With extra works instructed, this really isn’t a story. It’s not on parallel with the bike shed at all.

Is this a big deal?
