      Seems to overstate the relationship by quite a bit. Sure, Xi has an interest in a global position more advanced relative to the States. But buddies with Putin?

      The guy is a massive resource trove, already living on borrowed time. China can afford to be content with him, as they know he’ll die. Whatever siloviki succeeds him will rule a wrecked Economy with scarce supply of manufactured goods and plenty of raw materials.
