I think we should let them in charge of schools, what could possibly go wrong?

Will be interesting to see whether this thread gets hundreds of comments questioning if Catholics belong in modern Irish society like the thread about the Muslims praying in Croke Park the other day.

Hi, from the US but have ancestry in ireland & generally like to see what’s happening around the globe. I am puzzled by this post, can anyone direct me to something that explains the context? Tia.

The Catholic Church is incompatible with civilised society. Yes, I am aware that abuse happens in other religions, but there seems to be a lot of abuse happening in the Catholic Church.

I don’t think the Catholic Church has done enough to prove that it has changed. But I could be wrong.

Christianity and Islam are by far the two worst religions out there

And we’ll be told it’s the trans people that’s somehow the problem 🙄🙄🙄

Only two of the allegations relate to post 2000. They are new allegations, but not new incidents. Hopefully the victims get the justice and closure they deserve, however belated.

“If kids got raped by clowns as often as they get raped by priests it would be against the law to take your kids to the circus.”

The Catholic Church has actively worked against inquiries, hid money so they can’t pay out in civil cases, and refused to pay towards compensation funds.

Fianna Fáil leader Michel Martin was minister for children when the 2002 deal indemnifying all 18 religious congregations against any future legal actions taken against them by survivors of abuse in the institutions they ran was agreed

The government needs to undo the damage the deal Bertie and MM did with the churches and make them pay. Then you’ll see real reform.

The Irish public should inherit the lands and buildings of the church for the surrounding area to use as public 3rd spaces that remain tax free. They can vote to keep a religious aspect for those that want it but as it stands they do not serve the community proportionally.
